If you have little to no discomfort(depending on size of hernia) then surgery isn't neccessary. BUT, if you are suffering from any discomfort(which means it would be larger) then surgery should definately be considered because it can most like lead to Esophageal Stricture and MOREdiscomfort. You can do small things like: elevating the head of your bed, and avoid laying down right after eating. If the hernia was brought on by stress then you need to "de-stress" as much as possible. If brought on by weight you may need to try dieting. Surgery is not always the only option. Hope this help you!

Symptomatic patients should elevate the head of their beds and avoid lying down directly after meals until treatment is rendered.

Where hernia symptoms are severe and chronic acid reflux is involved, surgery is sometimes recommended, as chronic reflux can severely injure the esophagus and even lead to esophageal cancer.

NO you don't do surgery. I have one too. My doctor put me on Nexim to help control the acid in my stomach. Talk to your doctor about the nexim and don't panic, it's really not a big deal. I've had mine forever!

how do you know you have a hiatal hernia? if a doctor diagnosed it, then the doctor would also have told you what to do about it. If a doctor did not diagnose it, then you don't know what you are talking about.
