Turns out me and my grandma is stuck with Thanksgiving. I decided to use Yahoo Answers (and Sandra Lee) for some Thanksgiving ideas to make this a great one. So I will be asking a series of question so help out!

Okay were really concerned about making the table set presentable and something everyone will love (Children included). But a centerpiece is in mind. Any ideas.

I want to set pretty fall leaves around the table (real and or fake) but I have no ideas on setting them up in a cute non messy way.

A Best Answer will be chosen for those wondering but I will apperciate all the help.

I like the idea of the 1st poster, but in a different way. I'd rather use fake leaves due to concerns with bringing real leaves (and all the dirt, bugs and etc. they might have), in the house. Get some garland of fake leaves and remove the leaves if you like, and lay them out across the dinner settings like a table runner (using a cream or light orange colored table cloth underneath). You can easily find leaf patterned placemats and other such patterned tablewear too.

I would put votives out among the leaves in the table runner pattern as well, and use the small pumpkins, indian corn and etc. as the first poster said too. Then use one small bouquet of flowers square in the center of the rest of the decorations, low height though, so people do not have to see around it.

There are lots of great ideas for individual table settings and place cards, etc at the link below. I love the magazine, its more for kids crafts, but some of their ideas are just as cute for grown ups.

A very simple but elegant center piece can be a long bread plate, solid in color or pewter then line up some mini-size pumpkins.

With children around I keep my votives high. But candles make everything just a bit nicer. The actually brings a room to life.

I also use a few clear lights here and there. I weave them through already present green foliage (silk) and then add a few colorful fall leaves. I love this because I don't have to store my plants during the holiday season. I just enhance what is already present. I usually keep my base plants green.

Scattered pine cones look nice as well. Any more than three may look overdone.

It is always nice to add a bit of Fall to the bathroom the guest will be using. Even if you just get a couple of festive fall tea towels or a hand towel. Whats nice about this is that you can use again next year.

My two cents,

Pam

Here are a few ideas that I have used in the past.

1. hollow out apples and place and place beeswax candles in the apples. Make sure the bottom of the apple is carved so it sits flat.

2. Mini-pumpkins hollowed out and a votive candle inserted.

3. A low but long rustic basket filled with acorns, fall leaves and cranberries.

4. White napkins tied with purple french ribbon, grapes and figs placed in a clear glass tray.

I have more, but need to go. Hope this helps! Happy Thanksgiving

You mention a centerpeice... how about several (if the table
is long enough) but make them very low or very thin and high,
so that people are not having to bend and twist to see around
them to speak to someone across the table.

Personally, I love using natural leaves and in many colors. Hopefully, you are in an area that lends itself well to the fall colors. Pick several in beautiful colors and wash them gently in plain water. Dry them (also gently) and iron them between sheets of wax paper. You can dip them into plain parafin if you can find it. Lately my supermarkets have not been carrying this is readily as they used to. So maybe melt a white votive candle and use the was from that. Then use apples, mini pumpkins, Indian corn, etc adn lay them out in a beautiful array.

Whatever you choose, make it simple and easy on yourself.
So you too, can enjoy the day. Happy Thanksgiving!

Alright for the centerpiece; Get like a pop up turkey for the center or a really pretty flower assortment (in fall colors!) www.partycity.com may give you good ideas.

Then for the leaves; Get a table cloth (u will want to keep for future years, i assume) and glue fake leaves from the steam up to the mid of the table (so steams on the edge)..... then gloss over it, by adding another clear table cloth, glazing, or covering, u may also leave blank if rather. that puts a pattern onto the table with using good season decorations.

Don't sound so disapointed! Decorating is a great task! =] Just be creative and have fun with it! All with enjoy it.

I'm picturing a hollowed out pumpkin with a nice flower arrangement in it- kind of like this http://www.marthastewart.com/portal/site/mslo/menuitem.3e37788aa306c4df62fc95103373a0a0/?vgnextoid=08f5021a95bd5110VgnVCM1000003d370a0aRCRD&vgnextchannel=3b393358f23ee010VgnVCM1000003d370a0aRCRD&rsc=lpg_entertaining&lnc=6f79cf380e1dd010VgnVCM1000005b09a00aRCRD¤tslide=24¤tChapter=4&chapterCounter=2&lpgStart=1&adnumber=1#lpg
they have nice fall bouquets at the grocery store you can use for the inside. you may have to line the inside with a plastic bag or tupperware container with some wet foam so your pumpkin doesn't leak, then place some of those fake leaves around it and down the center of the table with some small candle holders scattered down the center also

Pumpkin cheesecakes are each and every of the fad these days. in case you probably did that, no better adorning would be required. For a widespread cheesecake, possibly you may make a glaze from apricot jam. Then a minimum of you will have an orange, Thanksgivingy shade. set up some craisins (sweetened dried cranberries) in little clusters as nicely.

I created a indian and pilgram scene out of candy and other edible products. The house was graham crackers with dry ice for smoke (last about 2-4 hours), otherwise, cotton will work. There were people, dogs, kids, and wagons. It was really fun to make. I made mine about 2' long but make it narrow so there is room for the main food. Everyone thought it was really creative.

Put out white pillar, taper, and votive candles on white or clear plates or platter. Have all different sizes and shapes. Then take fresh cranberries and pour on the plate/platter to cover. Simple and pretty.
