If you don't have a glucagon pen. If she becomes unconscious you won't be able to get her to drink fluid. Get something like glucose gel or honey or syrup and rub it on the inside of her mouth. Glucose gel is best because it acts fastest. Her system will absorb the sugar and she should come round quickly.

Once she comes round give her some carbohydrates such as sweet biscuits or toast and jam

This will give you time to get a paramedic to her and get her taken to the hospital. If she passes out it is a medical emergency...don't delay !

My husband's glucose went down to 47. He passed out and hit his head on something. Thank the Lord he was not seriously hurt.

This is what my husband's diabetic doctor recommended for me to do when he has one of these episodes. First check his blood glucose to see how low it is. Then if it is low, give him 1/2 of a power bar, He said this would bring it back to a normal range without causing his blood sugar to be too high in the morning. Also he said that the power bar has protein, which would give strength after a low episode.

If she is completely out and won't respond to your voice, then get her to the ER as fast as you can.

Use her machine to make sure that it really is her blood sugar causing the problem. If it's not, then you could make things worse by assuming that it's the problem.

Second, I agree with the glucagon injection. (NOT an Epi-Pen, that's for allergies). If she is awake at all, give her something sugary that can be absorbed quickly, like orange juice or cake icing. Don't put anything in her mouth though if she's unconscious. Third, call an ambulance, since they can do things like start an IV and give her sugar directly in her veins.

If she gets to the stage where she is in position to pass out, she needs to start testing more often. One usually does not pass out until it is dangerously low, like below 40, she should be testing way before it gets to that stage. Insulin is a balancing act and it is important to always know how low your blood sugar level is.

Don't let her get so low that she DOES pass out, always keep a can of coke handy does not matter if it is cold or room temp, it works magnificently, I have type2 diabetes and if I get a bit dizzy I have a swig of coke, normally if my sugar is ok coke is too sweet for me (prefer zero) but if my sugar is low it does not taste so sweet... anyway that is what I have found to be the quickest acting to get a fast rise in BS levels

You first check what her sugar really is.

If it is low, you will need to inject glycogen.

After that, keep her hydrated and get her to eat a little at a time.
Check her sugars often. She will need about 24 hours to recover.
Feel free to call her doctor .

No real reason to go to the ER.I was yelled at for sending my daughter to the Er following a seizure. The doctors told me to treat her at home. And then just give them a call.

Never ever give anything orally to a person who is unconscious or having a seizure. That includes glucose gel.

You can do it !

Have you discussed this concern with her doctor? If her blood sugar is unstable for some reason, the dr. needs to know. Carry some hard candy, and if she's feeling faint, let her suck on one. But please bring this up with her health care provider. BTW, an epipen is for allergic reactions, not hypoglycemia.

Obviously, don't listen to Trig love. With his advice you'd kill her.

Just call 911 and help her to the floor so she doesn't hit her head on anything.

You should have glucose gel on hand. If she is responding, you can put it in her mouth between her tongue and cheek until it dissolves.
