Yes. If you have surgery most likely you will have general anesthesia and an IV.

Never been admitted to hospital, but had ambulatory surgery when I had general anesthesia,an IV, and an ET tube( I think it goes along with general anesthesia).

I was admitted to the hospital three times in the month of October 2007! I was in the CCU (Cardiac Care Unit) for pericarditis with complications.

They now put an IV in your vein, but don't necessarily give you fluids any more. If they need to give you medications in an emergency the IV line is available. However, if you're having surgery they'll give you fluids and possibly antibiotics.

I've had general anesthesia and remember waking up in the middle of it. The same thing with local anesthesia.

yeah, had to ask mom (who is a nurse) what an et tube was, but anyway, i recently had a cathater in for like 20 min. for a test, but that's the closest i've ever had.
