I am 30 and have had high blood pressure since I was pregnant 4 years ago. I eat healthy - low salt, low saturated fat, lots of fruits and veggies, lean meat and whole grains. I exercise every day. I am thin, not overweight. I am not unusually stressed out, I'm happy with my life and not having any problems - just day-to-day annoyances. I have had some blood tests done and they were normal. I've tried several medications and nothing seems to be working to lower it. Are there any younger people out there with high blood pressure - and what caused it? I would like to know if anyone has a disease or condition that causes high blood pressure that I can rule out or test for. I just want to make sure my Dr. isn't missing anything. THANK YOU!!!!

Try get a second opinion..that usually helps. Also, it may be have been passed on genetically. My mother have high blood pressure, and my sister/brother have high blood pressure. Yes, what you eat really helps a lot, and you seem to be very healthy. Someone in your family may have had it? Do a healthy history check...that's how I found out Iabout mine.

I have you beat. I have had hypertension since the summer I turned 18.
When you get high blood pressure with no known cause, its called essential hypertension. No reason to have it, you just get it.
My blood pressure goes up when I walk into a doctors office. Its so common, they have a name for it called "white coat hypertension"
Next time your milling around a Walmart store or a Walgreens or somewhere where they have free blood pressure machines. Sit down, wait about 4-5 minutes and check your blood pressure. Write it down and keep doing this. Everytime you go to the MD take the list and see if you really have hypertension.

My friend, who is only 21, also has high blood-pressure even though she eats a fairly balanced diet. Hers is due mainly to heredity.... lots of people on her father's side have high blood-pressure.
