A GOOD JEWISH MOTHER'S GERMAN
CHOCOLATE CAKE

Grate 1 bar German chocolate and add 3/4 of it to Duncan Hines yellow cake mix with: 1/2 c. vegetable oil 1 c. water 1 sm. pkg. instant vanilla pudding
Beat everything 5 minutes and add 1 package of 6 oz. chocolate chips to mixture and bake in bundt pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 55 to 60 minutes. If you wish, use remaining 1/4 grated bar chocolate and sprinkle it and some powdered sugar over cake and put back in oven for a couple minutes.

I'd have to say "charoset", which is one of the ritual-symbol foods we have on the Seder table at Passover. When I try to describe it to folks, I cannot think of a single analogous food quite like it in any cuisine I know of. But is it good!
European style charoset is made of chopped apples and walnuts seasoned with lemon juice, cinnamon and red wine. Sephardic charoset has ingredients more typical of the Mediterranean--figs, dates, almonds....
I make it by the gallon; it's an essential part of the Seder feast in our family!

well 'Jewish' is a religion, so what they eat depends on where they came from. those from eastern europe eat differently from those born in israel, and those born in india eat differently from those born in ethiopia.

(yes, there are jews in ethiopia and india)
