I was just wondering if this was normal, above normal, or high for an 18 yr old.

i stay pretty athletic, i dont eat meat and this is about the 3rd reading in a row at the doctors... is something wrong

Hi hellz-@n. So, you just came in from running a mile on the track and found that your B/P is 130/100. Nope...perfectly normal. But, now you say that you haven't been running on the track. Ok then, what is the average B/P with multiple measurements for even today. Well, you realize that one of the reasons that the human has been around for 3.5 million years on this earth is because we adapt. We can run on the track and really crank up the heart rate and B/P in order to get more oxygen to the tissues. At the other end, we can be in a wonderful deep sleep and have a B/P monitor on us and our pulse can be 56 and B/P can be 96/60. Isn't that great!

Now you get the picture. These American Heart Association B/P recomendations are GENERAL.

Today I had a routine doc visit and I was almost late. I got there just in time. The nurse took me in and weighed me and took my B/P. She made the comment Hmmm....144/98. I smiled and knew that my brain had triggered my body to release adrenalin which in turn directly clamped down on some of my vessels while relaxing others while at the same time told the boys in the boiler room to shovel more coal to the boiler. As a result of this my B/P went up.

Yes, 130/100 is considered pre-high blood pressure.
Your top number (systolic pressure) should be under 120, and your bottom number (diastolic pressure) should be under 80. If this is your first blood pressure reading, you should have it re-checked at least 2-3 more times a few weeks apart to confirm pre-hypertension.
Watch your diet and try to ease into an exercise routine to get your B.P. under control, which should be relatively easy considering your age unless you are overweight.

This is very high for a teenager. Around 120/80 is considered normal for an 18 yr old.

Does it stay that high all time? Or is that just a one time check?
Consistently high like that is not good, it would be putting way too much stress on your heart. The bottom number , your systolic pressure is too high, it means your heart is still working too hard when it is at rest.
Monitor it regularly for a few days, both morning and evening and record them . If it stays high go see your doctor witht he readings.

normal BP is < 120/80. So yes, it is elevated, for anyone. However, an isolated one time elevated BP may be inaccurate. You need to get it repeated, and in the proper manner.

Yes very high...please visit a doctor. Exercise and eating heathly can help decrease your BP.

if that's the first incident, no need to worry :)
3 or more readings of elevated BP on diff occassions is hypertension...
