just wondering what doctor was testing for

Chlamydia and gonorrhea can both be tested for by a urine sample.

A urine test can also detect other infections though, like a urinary tract infection (UTI).

Good luck!

well, these posters are interesting, I did read the cdc site, however, my take is this:

I have worked as a medical technologist for 30+ yrs and tested many cases for GC and Chlamydia. I have never used urine as a medium for testing either, nor am I aware of any dipstick that tests for these. GC and Chlamydia specimens must be taken from the site to obtain the correct material to test. Bacteria for the GC usually and genetic material for the Chlamydia (DNA) so the urines do not carry or have this testing medium to test. There is currently a testing procedure to test for both of these pathogens via DNA procedures, but this still requires swabbing the "affected" area such as urethra, endocervix, etc.

Sooo... the dipstick was most likely used to do the "top part" of a urinalysis. This dipstick tests for glucose, protein, leukocytes, red blood cells, etc. It CAN be an indicator for UTI's, and give an indication that a STD is present if there is reason to suspect such.

I know the logic on the google search, "if its on the internet, it must be true".

Anyway, just my 2 cents worth.....

Addendum: Ok, I can stand corrected, there ARE some tests available, but after conferencing with my pathologist, the hospital laboratory does not offer these tests. It is felt they are not as accurate as the swabs and are considered a waived test for doctor's clinics and home use. A more accurate and specific test is needed for hospital diagnosis at this time to rule out false negatives or false positives. As technology advances, perhaps these dipstick type tests will become more advanced.

Even an old dog like me can learn a new trick or two.

You probably have epididymitis.... infection/inflammation of one of those tubes in your scrotum.. refraining from sex would be advised due to the pain you may feel when you ejaculate. They are suppose to feel good, not hurt.

no it cannot test for and STD, the drs are testing your urine for UTI's, pregnancy, could be a number of things they are testing but they cannot test u through urine for an STD, you must see your gyno and get a clutural for that
