My parent smoked for years while I was a kid and I can't count the number of times they tried to quit. My mom quit, eventually, when she was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer. She died 12 weeks later, 62 years of age.

I know how hard it must be. If she had had her choice, she'd have gotten off of them.

Hypnotism - this was the most effective, they quit for 3 days. But it was expensive, so they couldn't go back (I wish I'd known, I'd have sent the money!).

They've never tried acupuncture. I would try that because it's been around hundreds of years before our medicine even began. And it's very effective on pain. It wouldn't hurt to try.

I'd also try Chinese herbs--I'd go to the Chinese herbal store, talk to the licensed herbalist there and try what they give to you.

That's the best advice I can give you. Have a happy Thanksgiving!

Debbie

I quit an 11 year addiction cold turkey, and I'm still going strong 3 years later. Going cold turkey is not easy, so don't feel overwhelmed if that's not for you. Try the nicotine gums, and there are other devices out there that will help. Ask your doctor, too, they probably have a better idea of what's out there than me. TONS of luck to you! And congrats on wanting to quit, that's the first step!!

That's a tough one. I quit this past January, after smoking a pack a day for about 25 years. I threw my last few cigs away in a public trash can , and went home. I did not leave the house for 3 days. I also used a nicotine patch for a few days. I NEVER thought I'd be able to do it. I had tried soooooo many times in the past. But, believe me. if I can do it, so can you. Good luck. I have my fingers crossed for you!

It's tough. I've been there (and back, and there, and back). My most recent, and thus-far successful, attempt? I just quit. Done. No more. I just wanted to quit, and it was done. I don't know if I ever really wanted to quit in the past. But this time, I did. And it worked. No tricks. No patches. No gum. No anti-depressants. Just quietly, and to myself, said "done".

Clearly black lung, lung cancer, asthma, emphysema etc doesn't bother you.

Not to mention the cigarette companies make sure you stay hooked. Best to quit cold turkey.

Heck the price should be enough. Your paying an arm an a leg to suck on a cancer stick that is slowly killing you.

This may sound silly, but it worked for me. First, you have to be completely ready to quit and stay on track! Second, (and this is what worked for me), eat small candies when you want to smoke. I ate tons of Pez candy and Smarties. Good luck!

Also, I have an aunt who smoked for over 30 years and she quit successfully with Wellbutrin.

Psychological side effects of cigarettes. They are filled with additives and other chemicals. Tell yourself that you quit...do it..you may have withdrawls, in the long run it's worth it and your health will benefit too.
