Hi 24/7.
I have Diabetes Type 1; and it is under control.
However, I still have Diabetic Neuropathy, which has nothing to do with your circulation. It is a neurological condition, and can cause various types of problems.
It can cause numbness & tingling, which drives me crazy. This happens because the nerves become inflamed. It can be felt as numbness & tingling. It can also feel like sharp little pinpricks, as if mosquitoes were biting you all over your feet & ankles or hands & forearms. And it can manifest itself as itching. That one is the worst for me; it drives me up the wall.
It doesn't matter how many lotions I use to keep my feet soft; because that's not the problem. It's the nerves causing the problem. There are solutions, though.
Over the counter, there are products called DiabetAid. There is one specifically for itching, and there is one specifically for tingling & numbness. I keep a bottle of each type. That way, when I get hit with the itchies, I use one bottle; & when I get hit with tingling & numbness, I use the other.
They are specifically made for people with Diabetes, and they do work. If you can't find it in your drugstore, see if they can order it for you. I have found out that many products that don't sell a lot are not on shelves. But the pharmacists have books with products that they can order for you.
Since you have Diabetes, be very careful when scratching your feet. I know how badly you want to scratch & scratch; but it is very dangerous. If you cut through your skin, it will take a long time to heal. Also, it may become infected, which is very dangerous for people with Diabetes. You do not want to get an infection in your feet!
I hope you can find the DiabetAid products — they are a big help.
I hope I offered some help for you. I wish you the best of luck.

Diabetic neuropathy is a slow process if you look after yourself. No you do not have diabetic feet. If you are boarderline you have to start looking after yourself. It sounds like the doctor is referring to type 2 diabetes which means you do not need to take insulin but you can control it by diet. Cut down on sugar and fatty foods, drink plenty of water and make sure you get a good nights sleep. With your feet you need to watch out for numb patches and burning feet that makes them itchy and any discoloured skin around the toes. Many diabetics loose thier toes because they do not look after them. Also you will find that any broken areas on your skin may take a long time to heal. Watch out for your eyes as bleeding vessels behing your eyes, which is common, can be lasered if they are caught early. Hope this helps you. Type 2 diabetic well controlled by diet for 16 years.

Itching is a symptom of diabetes. And sometimes, when my levels are high, I itch like you wouldn't believe, frequently in embarassing places. My hands are the worst, but for my feet, I find that Vicks Vapo Rub slopped all over my feet (then put on socks of course) does more than anything I ever got from my doctor. You can use the cheap kind from the dollar store. It makes the skin soft and smooth, and believe it or not, it opens up your head when you have a cold.
