this may seem dumb...but make sure your boyfriend likes pasta before making it. I spent all day years ago making lasagne for my boyfriend and he didn't like Italian.LOL!
Guys usually always like steak and potatoes...
How bout a special dessert-like cheesecake and then for decorating...I wouldn't really bother unless your guy is in to stuff like that-they normally don't notice. Instead you should make yourself look hot! ;)

You seem like a very attentive girlfriend, I hope the boyfriend realises this. I'd maybe go for Chicken Fajitas, there fun to make and you can experiment with different ingredients to put in them, one could cook the chicken and the other could make the salsa. Next before he arrives decorate the room with big soft cushions and throws on the floor, don't do the candle light dinner at the table as it's too formal. Also, try not to watch a movie, put some music on and talk, play cards for favours, meaning whoever wins has to make the next dinner, or if you both have a sense of humour, the loser could have to do some kind of dare, nothing saucy, just fun. I also think lying and looking at the stars is a fab idea, keep it romantic but innocent and you can't go wrong. Before I close I would dress up for him to, it will make you feel good and give him a nice treat too. Have a good time and good luck hun ;D

You didn't mention how old you folks are or what your boyfriends tastes in food are, but here are a few ideas:

Decorations: lots of candles and tea lights; little white lites in plants and on the fireplace; poinsettia's are pretty as are pinecones and boughs with tartan plaid ribbons.

Food: If you're set on pasta, then how about a nice shrimp scampi with linguini and shaved parmesan? Or ravioli with a gorgonzola cheese sauce, sausages and peppers with a side of spaghetti, linguini al pesto, fettucini with artichoke hearts, black forest ham, and olives; or a seafood lasagne?

Have a nice baby lettuce salad with bacon and feta cheese, warm garlic bread, and some nice vino or sparkling cider.

Men want BEEF. Pasta is a side dish.
Grill a big Rib-eye, smother it with sauteed onions.
cook mushrooms then deglaze them with port wine.
Make a simple salad.
OK. Pene pasta with olive oil and sun dried tomato
get a good Cabernet
Crem Brule for desert - He will follow you anywhere.

pasta is too common, try making him something different like terriyaki chicken with lo mein (egg noodles) my boyfriend loves it. and maybe just some scented candles and a nice tablecloth for decorations

I remember one year for christmas I made my boyfriend a whole dinner not a conventional one but all the junk food I know he likes, then we ate pizza. He said it was great.
