I would say that it is immoral if it were real!
However a vegan wearing a faux fur coat is sort of an oxymoron. Vegans don't use anything from animals and faux fur looks very real. I think that you should kindly suggest that she will not appreciate the coat and suggest another type of coat. If you know your friend well you should make sure that she will get a present she will use and appreciate.

Take him into a factory to show him how they shove faux electrodes up the butts of the faux animals. Sorry, just giving you a hard time. No animals died or were harmed. If you're really worried that she or someone else might believe it's real fur, suggest he get the faux fur in lime green so it's glaringly obvious that it's fake. Still, I fail to see how receiving a well-meant gift makes someone immoral.
If you happen to know for a fact that your best friend thinks that synthetic materials are immoral, you should clue her boyfriend in. For example, if she boycotts seitan and tofu burgers because they are designed to resemble things that contain meat, and she doesn't eat agar because it has gelling properties like gelatin, you should point that out.
I think that would be your best bet. If you can point out specific incidences of her foregoing other "animal alternatives" he might see your point of view. However, if she regularly consumes soy- and grain-based meat and meat product alternatives, it would be really hard to explain why one "faux animal product" category is acceptable and another is not. The reasons these things exist is so people who enjoy certain textures, appearances, and tastes can do so without the animals involved.

That's hard to say. It is fake and most of the coats made to look like fur are actually faux. Would it be just as wrong to wear pleather shoes or jackets? Because someone might go out and buy one and accidentally buy leather? I say as long as that person is making the choice to go faux then buying actual fur and killing an animal, then I don't see a problem

You are SO stupid. We all know you are a fake, but ill act like your not. Ok, how in ANY WAY is fake fur immoral? Its not like the animal REALLY died, thats why its "faux', hunny. There are actually very few real fur coats, because of people like you.

A coat isn't the work of any spiritual entity ... malevolent or benevolent. It's a human-made, inanimate object, and therefore incapable of conveying immorality.
However, if your friend feels as strongly about this as you do, point this out to the boyfriend. I wouldn't want to spend megabucks on a present the recipient would end up hating. More to the point, if he cares about your BFF he won't want to offend her.

If she doesn't want it, I'll take it. You have already told me that I am so immoral that there is no hope, might as well go out with a nice faux coat!

It's not the work of the devil (in my opinion). It is FAUX, not real, etc. If anyone questions her for wearing it that's all she has to say...it's fake fur. That is one of the reasons faux fur is made, so that people that don't believe in wearing real fur can still enjoy the style.

Get over it. Your friend can do what she wants you have no control over that. And actually a faux fur coat is good, I mean if you are so against animal killing then this is a good thing to wear without it actually being an animal.

By the same logic do you not eat tofu because its fake meat and therefore glamorizes meat. or soya milk or rice milk because people might not know you are drinking fake milk and it might glamorize it. You best friend and her boyfriend can buy each other what ever they want for Christmas neither seem to be doing anything wrong or illegal so you really need to let this one go.
