My answer is simple----always plan for way more than you need. It is always better to have too much than not enough.

Considering that you're dealing with an older crowd, you'll need to consider the following:

1. Dietary restraints (fresh veges produce gas in some, cheese can be constipating)
2. Amounts of food can be smaller to accommodate smaller appetites.
3. Time of day for party, between lunch and dinner? After dinner? Before lunch?

Food ideas:

1. Fresh fruit platter with yogurt dipping sauce
2. Colby, medium cheddar, jack cheeses with artisan crackers.
3. Carrots and celery with dip
4. Sliced meats for mini sandwiches

You'll need approximately 1 cup of veges per person, 1/2 cup fruit, 2 -5 crackers or bread slices, 2 oz cheese, and 2 oz. meat per person. These are approximate and you might have to increase the amounts slightly, depending on time of day, ages, etc.

Now don't take this the wrong way cause its not meant to be funny, but make sure that most of your food is soft, cause from previous older generation parties I have attended, most of the ladies and gentlemen have false or no teeth... just a thought.
