My husband was recently diagnosed with high blood pressure and I am looking for a home blood pressure monitor that is not only accurate, but easy to use. Hopefully one that isn't too expensive either, although I understand you get what you pay for. Does anyone have any experience with these or recommendations?

In our house, we use the standard stethoscope and arm cuff - you listen for when the point where blood starts to flow, and then for the point where the beats can no longer be heard. If you are not comfortable with using a stethoscope, then the automatic ones are the best choice. Here's info from the American heart Association.

Measuring the blood pressure with a sthetoscope is indeed the best way, but that is not that easy to learn for someone without formal training. Hence, there are many electronic blood pressure monitors. Our hospital uses Omron machines, which are considered one of the most accurate. the Omron HEM-711AC is what I bought myself and I'm very happy with it. It costs about $70 and it is worth the money. One caveat, buy it at a place that is able to calibrate it for you, or at least have it calibrated at your doctor's office.

Hope that helps!

OMRON is well-known for higher readings. My company tested a few models and decided to discard it.

Lifesource or A&D UA-767 Plus. this is one of the very few blood pressure measuring machines validated by British Hypertension Society and cleared the ANSI test as well. My company is using this as a health screening equipment and the results are accepted by all the hospitals.

The price range is around 30 - 60 USD and you can easily found it in the internet.
