I've been vegetarian for 5 years, and I've been a member of peta for a while. I was just wondering if anyone else supports them?
I don't really support them, I don't like that they cause tension between vegetarians and vegans. i dont like that they use shock tactics to "convert" vegetarians. i just dont like the way they do stuff, plus i've heard lots of bad things about them, which i dont know are true, but still. i just dont support their message. i do like it when people become veg, but on their own. not because people showed them footage of factory farms. its a personal thing and shock tactics get quick, but short lived results.
anyone agree? disagree?

Okay, I'm NOT afraid of conflict. I just don't think that them constantly telling vegetarians, who actually do A LOT for animals, that they are just as bad as meat eaters. What you said yourself, I might as well just go with the flow and eat meat. Um, no.
I don't think they should create un-needed tension, when we're all trying to act towards the greater good. They constantly shove veganism down our throats, but their poster child is Pamela Anderson, who is a vegetarian and served crab cakes and meat at her wedding. Isn't she contributing to animal cruelty? They also always use celebs who aren't even veg. If they want to lure us in with famous people, it doesn't work. They've also killed adoptable pets. Who are they to tell us tht we're contributing to animal cruelty when they kill perfectly fine animals? They're hypocrites, and I was a member and supporter of Peta.

I just don't think that they should go around preaching compassion to animals, and then euthinize so many adoptable animals. Shelters don't go around shoving veganism down people's throats and telling people who don't adopt the pets (to stay wit hthe analogy) that they're not doing enough. PETA is a bunch of hypocrites and if their followers don't want to see that and ignore the truth, turn the other cheek, thats fine with me, just don't tell me i'm better off eating meat, or that i'm wrong when i know i'm doing a good thing by not eating meat.

LOL. How do vegetarians do A LOT for animals again?
God forbid anyone cause "unneccessary tension" about the torture of sentient creatures.
Retire the bit about the shelter animals, it's getting old. Shelters euthanize thousands every year because NO ONE WANTS THEM, but when PETA does it it's somehow worse? It'd be great if they had unlimited funds and didn't have to, but with all the people who hate the messenger for telling the truth, they do what they can.
Not liking a group because they "cause tension" between vegans and vegetarians is pretty sad. I mean, if you're afraid of conflict, why don't you just go with the flow and eat meat like the masses? If they make vegetarians uncomfortable by pointing out to them how they're still contributing to horrific cruelty, I can't say that I'm sorry.
What's a "shock tactic"? Showing people pictures and videos of the meat and dairy industries they contribute money to? If they're so offensive, maybe people should help to stop the acts they depict from occuring rather than whining about their delicate senses being offended.
So, in your opinion, people should keep their opinions to themselves instead of trying to educate people and raise awareness? What a sad world that would be. Women wouldn't be able to vote, but it wouldn't really matter to us, since we'd still be subjects of King George.

i dont support them 100% but its not because of their "shock" tactics. i dont think these are tactics of any kind, they are a real and graphic representation of what really goes on behind closed doors, if people are so offended by it then they shouldnt support it by eating meat. its reality, and i agree with paul mccartney, if slaughterhouses had glass walls no one would eat meat. they do more good than harm and yes there are many other good organizations but i feel like its becoming trendy to hate on peta, using stereotypes of fanatics without really seeing what they are about. no one is ever going to agree with any organization that large 100%, people should take the good they want from it and leave the rest. the perfect example is what some people write on here as answers...saying that unless u are 100% vegan they act like u are evil, well they plaster pamela anderson all over their KFC campaigns and she is only vegetarian, not vegan so that argument is garbage. and people just throwing the word terrorist around too is too much, peta has never done any act of terrorism or caused any human deaths, these people are beginning to sound like the canadian government, if u try to stand up for the environment or animals u are immediately labelled an eco terrorist. go run for office u goofs.

I don't like PETA at all.
I joined their little membership a couple years ago and the only thing they send me is a paper asking for money.
They may be good four resources but they've killed so many animals that were adoptable.
Last year they put down about 90% of the animals they rescued while adoption shelters found homes for 75% of the animals they rescued through animal control.
PETA is hungry for money and that's all.
During the IAMS investigation they had someone in there for 10 months taking pics and getting info. How could anyone that loves animals stand there and watch animals suffer.
Or when the UK PETA went to one of Gordon Ramsay's restaurant because they didn't believe in serving horse meat. So they dressed up in horse costumes and dumped horse crap everywhere on his property!!
They give a bad name to animal rights activists.
TO THE PEOPLE THAT GIVE ME THUMBS DOWN, WHY DON'T YOU DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH AND SEE JUST HOW MANY TIMES PETA HAS BEEN HAS BEEN TAKEN TO COURT FOR NOT PUTTING ANIMALS UP ADOPTION INSTEAD OF EUTHENIZEING THEM!!

I don't like them, they are just too abrasive and militant. there are MUCH more tactful ways they can get their message across. I mean, comparing animal slaughter to the Holocaust? Could it get any more disrespectful than that? If so, they'll probably find a way.
and how could you say that vegetarians don't do a lot for animals? thats just downright low. just becase one isn't vegan doesn't mean that they don't make a difference. every little bit helps. even omnis who don't support the leather and fur trade helps. If you say otherwise, you might as well condone eating meat and wearing leather and fur.
They're too dense to figure out that if they go about things in a more positive way that they would attract tenfold more people to their cause.

PeTA is just an organization. They don't have to define you or how you feel about things. Sure, some people follow everything they say. Some people, like me, think it's a good idea that they exist but don't necessarily agree with everything they say.
You can make you're own decisions without a big organization telling you what to do. Listen to yourself, then others.

I think PETA uses unethicle tactics to reach an ethicle goal.
So I agree with you 100%. I think Peta needs to grow up and start sharing their opinions with a less in your face tactic.
I have also read reports of PETA being sued because of many dead and decaying animals in their dumpsters. Animals that have been admitted to PETA for care.

there may be some things that arent right but those videos are helpful because some ppl have no knowledge of the cruelty...part of the reason i became a veggie was because of the video and info i got from them!
yes its nice for ppl to become veggie on there own..but some ppl dont understand why u should be one.. in other words they dont know the facts..i think everyone should watch the videos and then deciede on there own!

Their methods are too extreme. They just have this "all or nothing" attitude when it comes to their principles - they shove veganism down your throat and basically consider you evil and bad if you eat any kind of animal products whatsoever. They want to abolish all animal farming altogether.
While I am ALL for ethical treatment of animals, I don't think it is necessary to completely abolish the use of animals for food. I DO think it is necessary to lobby for the better treatment of those animals, which is what the SPCA fights for. I think it's a far more realistic approach.

I don't!
I support Compassion Over Killing, an organization based in Takoma Park, Maryland. Their message is just as valid, and they don't use the shock tactics PETA does.

I agree with you. While the message they're trying to get out is valid and right, their methods seem kind of extreme to me.
The problem is that they have to use shock tactics because we (people in general) are so complacent. If we weren't so apathetic they wouldn't have to offend our sensibilities in order for us to see what's going on.
