Maybe a day or two before the wedding. The cake will taste old and may mold if any earlier..

You don't seem to know much about making cakes and it can be harder than you think. If you are really interested, you have plenty of time to go down to your local craft store and sign up for the wilton courses. They will teach you everything you need to know and you can make an awesome cake then. Also, if you take courses 2 and then 3 you can learn different piping techniques and how to stack the cakes so they are supported properly and won't fall over.
You can make the cakes about a week before and freeze them. Just make sure they are fully thawed out before decorating. If you aren't freezing them then no more than 3 days before the wedding. You can assemble them and decorate them the day before. Make sure you use non perishable fillings so you don't have to refigerate it. Also, avoid the new crisco without trans fat. The frosting slides off of the cake and it is a mess. In August with the heat it will be even worse. Make sure you have the cake completely finished the night before because you won't have time the day of the wedding.

Get a design in mind now. But actually make the cake the week of. My mom has done a ton of wedding cakes and is doing mine. She'll start baking the week of and freeze the cakes - it doesn't hurt them at all. Then the day before is when she makes her icing and decorates the cake and then takes it to be assembled if possible. Otherwise she'll do finishing touches and set it up the morning of the wedding. She also takes extra icing bags with her just in case the cake slid or whatever and she needs to do minor touch ups....

I'd make it the day before, you don't want it dried out before her big day. I actually think the day of, would be even better, but I'm sure there will be many other things to attend to. Not too early to get some ideas on how to decorate it though. If you don't have any experience decorating cakes, it might be good to practice, find some books or take a class in cake decorating. I took one once and had a great time and learned so much.and have made some awesome birthday cakes ...and well if there's a wedding coming up ---there may eventually be birthday parties for your grandchildren. Some of the flowers and things can be a bit tricky. Personally, I wouldn't make the cake any sooner than the day before though. Have fun.

About 3 or 4 days before the wedding. Or make your life easier and have it made.

My mom made my wedding cake and she started two days ahead of time. The first day she made all the cakes. The second day, she decorated it. If you use fondant, you can make it a little ahead of time. Good luck!

I would say figure out what filling you want to put in it and how you want it to look. 2 tier, 3 tier or whatever she wants, start getting a broad idea of what she wants but I would say 2-3 days before the wedding should be fine.

I particularly consider you, Mr Wodehouse, cake is rather unwholesome. yet I worry that babies those days are very reckless, and that i'm afraid which you is honestly no longer waiting to cajole Emma to no longer have a cake. You had greater acceptable have Mr Perry status via, merely in case.

You can design it now.. but if you watch Food Network, most cakes are made with in 3 days of a special event, then frosted the day before. Keep it in single layers and assemble a couple of hours before the reception.
