I guess it's an interesting idea.
It's usually a case of 3's a crowd - and often doesn't work
Just with 3's you get two people paying attention to each other and the third one feels left out.
But some people can make it work

Your question is not clear at all.
Are you talking about a lesbian relationship or heterosexual relationship, so simple friendship?
As grown up, you don't ask people to be your friends. You either get on or you don't. Eventually, this friendship gets deeper or not with time and you can become best of friends, or just remain acquaintances.
As for lesbians, I wouldn't have a clue!

Why not? Statistically speaking, it has as good a chance of succeeding as any other romantic relationship. If you can raise the subject tactfully, I'd say go for it.
