there is no word in indian language which defines equivalent to religion . it is western concept. The word religion was introduced by christian missionaries to define converts .With no converts there would not have been definition of religion.
In india there were budhists jains, but religion as has been made to day is recent term. average hindu family worships at least 10 gods . The communities which define religion follow unitary form of God , hence the problem

Hinduism is a religion beyond any doubt.. It is a way of life.May I ask in which scripture did you find the word Hindu or Hinduism or Hindusthan ? The word was coined in 7th century c.e. by westerners for the people living on the eastern side of the river Sindhu. Sindhu was also pronounced by them as Hindu. The word Hindu is not found in either of the 4 Vedas, epic like Mahabharatha. Bhagwatham, or Valmiki Ramayana.

Sanaathana Dharmam(Hindu"ism" is a misnomer) is the oldest Religion. It is not correct to say that people without non-Indian blood can not be be Hindus.Even people with Euro-American "Blood"(?!!!!) can be Hindus. Hindus are born in Nepal, Pakistan, Bangaladesh,Ceylon(Sri Lanka),Burma(Myanmar),Bhutan,Malaysia, Singapore,British Guyana,Surinam,French Gyuana, England, France,Germany,U.S.A, Canada,Australaia and many other countries.(1.2 Billion Hindus are there all over the world) Anybody(even Euro-Americans) who believe Hindu Texts and Religious Practises are Hindus only.In Hindu Religion there is no ritual to "Convert" to Hinduism and does not "entice" people to join Hinduism.

Vedic civilization is actual culture...
and what is called or known as Hinduism is a very, very, vague spark of Vedic Culture.
But yes, in its own little way I feel each religion should be and or is a Culture... a way of life....
Could also be called a tribe... to get real old school.... or even called a camp.
See ya

The same could be said about Christianity, Islam or any other religion. Culture and religion often interlap.
