Why do people not look up to those who made an effort at school and did well. Why do people not accept that being educated makes you a better person?

Tmarie99- I do get what you mean there are other attributes to be proud of. That does not mean being educated in itself is not a virtue that must be respected and looked up to.

It's a case of sour grapes. Getting an education requires effort, as you say. Those who don't want to make the effort will denigrate it.

Because you have to be a respectable PERSON. The monkey in the white house is educated, but can you tell I have no respect for him?
Having an education does not make one respectable OR "better". Being a respectable person and being a good person makes one respectable.
My dad didn't have a lot of education, but he was the most respectable person I've ever known. And I have a lot more education than he had.
Don't think you're so important because of school, be a good person.
**Education is not a "virtue", nor is it something that "must" be looked up to. Some of the biggest d*ckheads I know have college degrees. Education is only one aspect of a person, if you're an assshole you don't deserve respect.

Brainz... Get YOUR facts straight. Mother Teresa's father was a wealthy man, she was well educated. All nuns and priests are.

Maybe because the world changes to much everyday they have a very stressful life and they have to may worries and they are obsessed to get more and more money - they care only about this the rest is not that important
They live in a another world and they just can understand the meaning of the education in the real life

First of all you better get your facts right! Being educated does not mean that you are a better person! Being educated simply means you are a more knowledgeable person! Mother Theressa was not much educated...get the point! Secondly, what you say is not true...people do respect education! In fact more so now than ever! People with education definitely have an advantage over others in every walk of life!!!

Guess what.....employers generally do favor the educated; however, being educated in no way makes you "a better person", in the moral, ethical, sexual or any other sense that I can think of. IF your your peers do not respect education, I strongly suggest you change the group of people with whom you associate, not because they probably aren't educated, but rather because they probably aren't very bright.

Education it self has to do with prestige. Nevertheless is very important to each one of us.

Today, people are worshipping money like never before in the history. If you have money - sure you´ll gain respect from people.

If you are educated (in a sense that you are graduated at college or university) you are just look by others as a ordinary human being.

My advice is: don´t waste time pleasing people! Rather please God instead.

Human beings fail us but God never fails us.

Because most of the people the media encourages us to idolise are not educated people. Why would anyone want to be like Einstein or Sokrates when they can be like Wayne Rooney, Jordan, or Paris Hilton? Because people no longer aspire to be educated there is less respect for education.

They are too young to understand the need.

I started having issues with not doing my homework in about grade 5 or 6. At that time of my life, I was NOT thinking about a potential career, I was thinking about socializing. No one inforced the importance of school, they just said do it!

Now that I'm a few years out of high school, I have a new view and wish I could go back and learn and learn and take more courses. AFTER high school is when you are mature.

I'm not saying all people, I'm sayin the people that don't respct it.

Because of the influence around them. Sometimes their family AND freinds dont neccesssarily care about education etc= so they don't.
As a result they'll end up opposing whats GOOD for them etc.

The_kill is right. People dont seem to respect effort anymore. it seems they harder you work...the more resentment you reap.

Uneducated people see it as you trying to distance yourself from them. They can not see outside of the box (prison) they have made for themselves.
