I had my tubes tied earlier today and the spot where the incisions are hurting very badly. Even the Oxycodone does not begin to take the edge off the pain. This matter is complicated by the fact I have a minor cold so every time I cough the pain is unbearable. What can I do to make the pain easier to deal with?

P.S I am also taking the anti-inflamatory they sent home with me too and they both arent working.

You've got the strongest pain reliever in pill form you can take, anything stronger would mean being admitted to the hospital again. Some of your pain may be from the gas they use to inflate the abdomen so they can do the procedure, and should ease as the gas passes.- no pun meant there. You can help this along by moving as much as you can force yourself to, at least your legs. Sometimes it also helps to have something snug against the abdomen. If you have a wide ace wrap, you might can try wrapping that around you and over the incision sites. The pressure sometimes gives relief. Hugging a pillow when you cough can also help some. Otherwise, there's not a lot else you can do except move about to find a position that is at least less painful than others. Lay on your side and try hugging a firm pillow, if nothing else. Sorry, but until the gas bit moves along, there's no great fix.

I had my tubal after giving birth to twins. The pain from the tubal was much, much worse than the pain from giving birth. The mom gave good advice. Pressure against the incision when you cough will help some. As for the pain medication, call your doctor and tell him it's not helping. There are some stronger meds available, but it's unlikely he'll prescribe anything like that for you without seeing you again in person. Ask if you can try doubling the dose of oxycodone you're taking. That might take the edge off. Good luck recovering, and hope you feel better.

CALL YOUR DOCTOR!!! Tell them that you are still in SEVERE & AGONIZING pain! Ask is your doctor can put a prescription in over the phone or if you can come in to their office and get something else for pain. Make sure to tell them that the medicine you are taking is having no effect on you at all and it feels like you're not even on pain meds.

I agree 100% with the mom. she is absolutley right. All of these same things happend to me when I had mine done. Only I was vomiting from the anthesia. All the advice she said is exactly what they told me to do, and it helped. Back then, they only gave you the minimal amount of narcotic, which, it turned out I couldn't take. Do just what she said, and your relief will be almost instant.
