Ich möchte fisch essen.
is correct,
when you have modal Verben (modal verbs), such as können, müssen, dürfen, sollen, wollen, mögen, and their conjugations, the auxiliary verb most come around the end of the sentence (in statement senteces)

Of course it is not always, in sentence that starts with 'Weil', to denote 'because of', the modal verb comes at the end of the sentence.
thus, for example:
Weil Ich fisch essen möchte.

"Ich moechte Fisch essen" is the right one.

The difference between the two sentences is that the correct one puts the noun before the verb, which, in that kind of sentence, is pretty much the only way to handle it in German.

Here's the quick rule:

Put the word with the tense on it in second position, everything else at the end.

If you have just a "bare" verb, it's got the tense and it's in second position. If you have anything else along with the verb (any kind of auxiliary), it gets the tense and it goes in second position. If you have two auxiliaries with the verb then you need to know what order they go in and still put the one with the tense in second position and the others at the end.

Here's a hint:
In German, when you use a modal verb, the other verb(s) always go to the end of the clause.
