They undergo the same training. Guard is a ready reserve. Army includes both active and reserve.

Guard technically belongs to the states. Benefits vary from state to state, except for benefits given all Army and reservists.

Guard is by definition a part time service. Army is usually full-time. For full explanation, talk to an Army recruiter. Most Army recruiters can also discuss the National Guard.

I'm retired Air Force Reserve, by the way, and served in the Air National Guard before I went on active duty for ten years.

National guard is more used for national disasters, i.e. floods, tornadoes, etc. Now with there being so many soldiers having to go over, they are as well. They have the same training, but the army has more benefits. You have to weigh the options on the chances of going overseas, and if you would rather do that. With this conflict now coming to a close, the chances of a new NG going over is slim. If you have a family, I suggest going Army, they really take care of you and the family.

You cannot compare the two.

The Army is a full time job.

The National Guard is two days a month.

The Army offers alot more benefits than the National Guard does.
