Endsleigh will do insurance for you, as will some other specialist insurerers.
You may need to put a lock on your room, and it will be more than likely that its only your stuff that will be insured.

You should look for a 'personal posessions' insurance policy - from an insurance broker - forget about the internet, this is where knowledge and experience matter. (Actually it matters in most insurance policies it is just that people think they know more about insurance than they actually do). This is suitable for sums up to about £5K.
Alternatively you may all be able to take out a joint policy to cover the contents in the whole property - again you would need proper insurance advice.
(The reason you find cover difficult is that your circumstances are unusual and the staff at direct insurers don't know how to handle anything other than the bog-standard - they are trained to ask questions from a script and enter details onto a quote engine, they have no knowledge of insurance per se)
Yes - Homelet have a policy for tenants - each tenant should complete a separate policy if they are sharing - so sharing is obviously permietted

You shouldn't be un-insurable, it should just be more expensive. Its because other people have access to your belongings. If you have a lock on your bedroom door you should find it easier to get insurance. Ask you landlord if there is a possibility for getting a lock put on and explain why you want one - it will need to be a lock which can be locked when you are not in the room. This should make it easier for you to get insurance.

Ask a good broker to get you several quotes - check the conditions(excess's etc.) as well as the premiums.
You can insure virtually anything other than a certainty at a price.. Lloyds of London have the widest variety of specialist insurers (not that you need them for your present enquiry) Good luck.

You need to call around different insurance companies as some will insure you, but they are rare. Try the ones that do special insurance for students.

I would find an insurance company which insures students such as Ensure or get a good agent to do a search. You are not un-insurable

a friend of mine has this problem, and so far he has been told that he cant get insurance, because of sharing, and also because alot of the contents dont actually belong to him, they are either property of the landlord or his house-mate, why not talk to your landlord and ask him to take one out for you that you will pay, maybe by giving him the extra on top of your rent, it doesnt have to be just you that pays the insurance, talk to the other housemates and see what they say
