Only if they're stoned and call themselves 'Dashes'.

Hi G11,
The answer is NO!
This idea of a person's spirit wandering around with nowhere to go comes from Greek philosophy and has been carried through in Christian theology except that most Christians now believe that a spirit goes to either heaven or hell.
This also is false as it does not concur with Biblical theology at all.
The spirit is the breath in biblical terms. A soul is a person not a spirit as is commonly believed and confused with spirit.
When a person dies it is the BREATH (spirit) that returns to God, not the soul (person).
The body remains and returns to the dust.
Fortunately that is not the end of the matter because Jesus promised a resurrection for those who are faithful to Him. A resurrection to eternal life.
Sadly there is also a resurrection for those who do not follow Jesus, that resurrection is to damnation or eternal death as opposed to eternal life.
The Bible does speak of spirits but they are demons, supernatural beings who have fallen from grace with Satan.
If you would like a list of Bible texts that explain the principle I am happy for you to contact me.
God Bless,
H'chat.

Logically why would they be in graveyards? Rumours have it that death is supposedly the spirit leaving the body. Why would they not be where the people died? Which is rarely in a graveyard.

No, the (demon) spirits don't have buisiness on graveyards, they hang around soroundings where there are people, watching over them, taking some timing they can prey people to sin.

Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:

Just a couple of weeks ago at Halloween I went and hung out at a rural cemetary for about a half an hour around midnight. Just to see if there were any ghosts there. It was the cemetary at which two of my great-grandparents are buried. I didn't see or hear anything unusual at any time.

So, if spirits hang around graveyards, they're either completely unobtrusive or there just weren't any at this one.

In my experience, graveyards are less haunted than places that are... well, not graveyards. Typically, a spirit will haunt a place that affected it strongly (whether this was the place of death or not) when it was incarnate, and most people are not horribly moved by graveyards, nor did they die there.

There is nothing left over when we die.

(Ecclesiastes 9:5-6) For the living are conscious that they will die; but as for the dead, they are conscious of nothing at all, neither do they anymore have wages, because the remembrance of them has been forgotten. 6 Also, their love and their hate and their jealousy have already perished, and they have no portion anymore to time indefinite in anything that has to be done under the sun.

The dead are 'asleep' in death.

(Psalm 13:3) Do look [upon me]; answer me, O Jehovah my God. Do make my eyes shine, that I may not fall asleep in death,

The ghosts do, that is why in India and in others cultures the dead body is cremated, and a ritual perform, so to help the person to get detach from they dead body and even help them to get a new one soon.
