I built a loft for my bed, about 7 feet long and 40 inches wide and 5.5 feet high. My computer desk fits perfectly underneath, and I attached a $7 fluorescent shop light on the underside to light the desk. It saves a LOT of space!!

I would keep furniture minimal so you don't have so much clutter. Paint your walls however you want. I find that having one dramatic wall and the others a tan color or lighter color is great!!! Go to marshall's tj maxx or Ross and find a nice comforter set for cheap, get some picture frames and decorate. If you like tv get one of those and you will be nice and cozy. If you want even more and can afford it get a small student refrigerator, you'll definately feel at home!

I would recommend that you don't fill up your room with a lot of furnishings. The more furniture you have and the more things you put on the walls, the smaller the room will look. Simple, clean decor will make your room more comfortable, I think.

First, chose four elements you would like to have in your room: 1) Prominent color: Color that would be used on your walls, but would not overpower the pieces in your room. 2) Accent color: Color that will compliment the hue of your wall color, as well as the tones in your furniture. 3) Furniture tones: If you're planning on buying new furniture, select pieces that are accented by the colors of your room. 4) Textures: Chose fabrics, sculptures, wall art, etc. that fit with the overall vibe in your room and your personality. For well priced furniture, art, and accessories, head to urbanoutfitters.com, potterybarn.com, or any of your favorite home decor sites. Happy decorating!

Keep the floor as clear as you can, and use as much wall hugging shelving and casing as you need. If you let the middle of your floor get cluttered, it will cause you a lot frustration.
