Does having lasik surgery have a disadvantage in future years(for example work ,going on rides, water going in the eye?)
This is a very weird question but i just want to know your opinions.
And If anyone had glasses what is -3.00 in the 20/20 chart convert to?(20/40?)
P.S If you had lasik surgery how was it?

It is still a fairly new procedure so long term effects cannot be really measured yet.
I only had temporary dryness while healing and now almost 2 years later I love that I had it done and think it is the best thing I have ever done.
While healing you cannot get water in your eyes or wear eye makeup and it really depends on what work you do. I was back at work on a Monday (having done it on a Friday and I had an office job)
I still find it amazing that I can see the time on my alarm clock with no glasses!!!!!

So far no long term effects have been found for LASIK, but the 30 year data isn't in yet.

You really can't calculate visual acuity without glasses from your prescription. If you are -3.00, your vision without glasses is likely somewhere between 20/100 and 20/400. If you want to know how well you see with your glasses on, you will have to ask your eye doctor who measured it.

This link answers your second question:

http://www.lpf.com/source/rk/20something.html

And here's a link that talks about long-term effects of LASIK:
http://www.solveyourproblem.com/lasik-eye-surgery/long_term_effects_of_lasik.shtml

Since it's relatively new I don't think they really know the answer.

Hope this helps! If I had the extra money, I would consider LASIK but would get professional consultation first to see if I'm a candidate.

I have not had lasik but my wife did it years ago. She raves about the results and routinely says she would have paid three times as much for the procedure. She has no ill effects and does everything she did in the past but can see a whole lot better.

My uncle had lasik surgery many years ago when it was still very new. He was practically blind for a day or two but his sight has been great since and he doesn't have any issues like water in the eye or problems with work (he's on a computer many hours a day so...)
