Think about it, if that is so, then what's the point to all the complex chemical reactions and neural networks inside the brain, and the fact that something as simple as an antidepressant can change one's mood? Is the soul not separate from the body, and since our thoughts and emotions are part of the soul they shouldn't be affected by earthly things such as chemicals and electrical signals in the brain?

I am asking this because you guys usually use this argument against us atheists:

"If there is no soul, how do you explain emotions and thoughts and self-awareness"....etc

I've not heard that before. I've never seen a person w/o a brain but I imagine they wouldn't be angry, happy or sad...............just dead. As far as I know emotions and inteligence flow from the brain. I've heard all of the right brain left brain stuff and heard about all kinds of mental health issues connected to different chemical imbalances in the brain but never heard a christian say emotions and inteligence flow from a soul. I am a christian but don't believe in souls by the way.

Because the brain is the body's computer so to speak where with we speak, walk and all other daily body functions. Including those we don't ever realize that our body does. Our soul is who we are and were before we were born. It houses our personality base, which is added to by our life experiences. Our brain directs our thoughts and allows us to act on them. But of course our bodies weaknesses effect our brain so sometimes those thoughts are distorted or rearranged because of Chemical imbalances or drugs etc. And also some are afflicted with invasion of evil spirits who affect their minds and control their thoughts. Making it seem they are mentally ill or unstable.

Try to play a CD on your stereo without a receiver/transmitter hooked between it and the CD player. Try to hear the sound of that same CD without speakers. These are functions of the brain when transmitting nerve pulses into reactions by using the brain's "transmitter". Now try to tune in a radio station with the same brain "receiver/transmitter" without using the "receiver" part. If it is tuned in correctly to a station, your hear a beautiful signal. If it isn't, you just look at everybody else and say, "I can't hear anything. What are you talking about?"
