According to hadith of Muhammad pbuh muslim men are suggested to maintain beards as the different appearance with christians who maintain moustaches
There is no spirit aspects of having a beard

I doubt that a beard would be significantly spiritual. I have had one for 36 years, do not intend to take it off and love it. It was a personal choice I made just for myself. I think that if hair grows there, it is supposed to be there. And,... I hate shaving.

I think the idea is to promote developing one's character rather than being vain and looking after your face and good looks ie to stay in the natural state!
The same reason is used to shave the head as buddists do so the monk would not be vain and work on his character.
Just shows how differently people think of achieving the same thing!

It's not condemned, although it's a good idea to look presentable in today's society, which encourages shaving. Conservative is best.
