It all depends on what you want to do. If the idea of nuclear power and being in the navy's top program, become a nuke. You could work for a civilian power plant. Other options are open too. Since nuclear training is so demanding and strenuous, employers know that they can count on you to get a job done on time and efficiently, and that you're very trainable. Some employers hire on the basis of your security clearance, so the higher the better. Being a radiomen or IT will help you there. But the biggest question is "Why become enlisted when you can get a degree and become an officer?" Officers have it way better than enlisted. Trust me on this. I've been serving for 4 years now and I have 2 to go. Pay is better, more respect, bigger demands, endless opportunities for officers rather than enlisted.

Most jobs in Australia's Navy are trying to have the training recognised in the civilian world for exactly that reason.
Categories such as an Electonic Technician has some qualifications that will allow you to get a head start in an electrical trade. Combat specific roles are the ones that don't swap over very easily and I don't reckon that'll change too much in the future either...
It all depends what area you're interested in - if you're serious about the military join for a job you enjoy (or think you will) or else you wont even last getting the qualifiactions before you get fed up.
