Man was created in the image of God here on earth (Genesis 1:26-28), but a little lesser than the angels in terms of spiritual stature as at that point of his creation (Hebrews 2:6-8). Likewise, angels were also created by God (Hebrews 1:7 ) as ministering spirits, possibly in eternities before man's creation within the celestial realm. Man's existence on earth is for the purpose of his cultivation based on the choices gives him by God, and what he choses to become as a free will agent, whether to be god-like or demon-like (Genesis 22:16,17; Gen 3:ff).

It is only by faith in the son of God, Jesus Christ, that a soul can come into erternal life in heaven after it dies or ceases to live in the phyisical body. As regarding your question about transformation in the life after death of a true christian, he or she does not become an angel, but Christ-like; that is, the expression of God's image that was intended in Genesis 1:26. It is only by being god-like that our true identity in God is established, and that starts when we give our lives to Jesus and abide in him.

Meanwhile, in heaven, we will dwell in new spiritual bodies, and will never have any sinful desires or earthly needs like procreation, that is how we will be like angels; not angles. In Hebrews 12:22-23, we are given a picture of the saints who are in heaven as being different from angelic beings. Thus, besides the innumerable company of angels in God's presence, there are also the spirits of the righteous who have been made perfect. These spirits are the believers in Christ who lived and died in him while on earth.

As a child of God, you are very special to him, and that is why God has sent his holy angels to serve you and help you in working out your salvation. This truth is shown in Hebrews 1:14, "are they (angels) not all ministering spirits ,sent out to render service for the sake of those who will inherit salvation?"

Dear Trinity,

The Bible teaches that angels and humans while both created are different beings. People do not become angels when they die. In the Bible angels serve as messengers of God and also surround the throne of God in giving worship to God.

Hope that helps. Feel free to email if you need any clarification.

Kindly,

Nickster

No. Angels are a separate order of being, and those who remained loyal to God have been in Heaven forever. They are the messengers God sends out. They are now confirmed in their bliss, with no further prospect of sinning. Humans may well be "like angels." (Jesus used the term in stating there is no marriage in Heaven.) But humans in Heaven are those who have been ransomed from the fallen world, and are forever different from angels who did not experience life in this world.

Genesis 6:1-4 :
"When men began to increase in number on the earth and daughters were born to them, the sons of God saw that the daughters of men were beautiful, and they married any of them they chose. Then the LORD said, "My Spirit will not contend with man forever, for he is mortal; his days will be a hundred and twenty years."

"The Nephilim were on the earth in those days -- and also afterward -- when the sons of God went to the daughters of men and had children by them. They were the heroes of old, men of renown."

There have been several suggestions as to who the sons of God were, and why the children they had with daughters of men grew into a race of giants (that is what the word Nephilim seems to indicate).

The three primary views on the identity of the "sons of God" are
(1) they were fallen angels, or
(2) they were powerful human rulers, or
(3) they were godly descendants of Seth intermarrying with wicked descendants of Cain.

Giving weight to (1) is the fact that in the Old Testament the phrase "sons of God" always refers to angels (Job 1:6; 2:1; 38:7).

A potential problem with (1) is the fact that Matthew 22:30 indicates that angels do not marry. The Bible gives us no reason to believe that angels have a gender, or are able to reproduce.

Views (2) and (3) do not have this problem.

The weakness of views (2) and (3) is that ordinary human males marrying ordinary human females does not account for why the offspring were "giants" or "heroes of old, men of renown."

Further, why would God decide to bring the Flood on the earth (Genesis 6:5-7) when God had never forbidden powerful human males or descendants of Seth to marry ordinary human females or descendants of Cain.

The oncoming judgment of Genesis 6:5-7 is linked to what took place in Genesis 6:1-4.

Only the obscene, perverse marriage of fallen angels with human females would seem to justify such a harsh judgment.

The weakness of view (1) is that Matthew 22:30 declares, “At the resurrection people will neither marry nor be given in marriage; they will be like the angels in heaven.”

However, this weakness can be overcome by noting that the text does not say “angels are not able to marry.”

Rather, it indicates only that angels do not marry.

Secondly, Matthew 22:30 is referring to the “angels in heaven.”

It is not referring to fallen angels, who do not care about God’s created order and actively seek ways to disrupt God’s plan.

The fact that God’s holy angels do not marry or engage in sexual relations does not mean the same is true of Satan and his demons.

View (1) is the most likely position. Yes, it is an interesting “contradiction” to say that angels are sexless and then to say that the “sons of God” were fallen angels who procreated with human females.

However, while angels are spiritual beings (Hebrews 1:14), they can appear in human, physical form (Mark 16:5).

The men of Sodom and Gomorrah wanted to have sex with the two angels who were with Lot (Genesis 19:1-5). It is plausible that angels are capable of taking on human form, even to the point of replicating human sexuality – and possibly even reproduction.

Why do the fallen angels not do this more often? It seems that God imprisoned the fallen angels who committed this evil sin, so that the other fallen angels would not do the same (as described in Jude 6).

Earlier Hebrew interpreters, apocryphal, and pseudopigriphal writings are unanimous in holding to the view that fallen angels are the "sons of God" mentioned in Genesis 6:1-4.

This by no means closes the debate. However, the view that Genesis 6:1-4 involves fallen angels mating with human females has a strong contextual, grammatical, and historical basis.

The idea that people (especially children) could become angels began in the Victorian period, when many children died of childhood diseases, and the death of children was romanticized and sentimentalized by saying that they were now angels in heaven.

But humans do not become angels.

No. Angels are separate beings. Humans cannot become Angels.

no, we are not angels. The word says we will be LIKE the angels, who neither marry nor are given in marriage. So we will not be married in heaven. Angels are servants and messengers of God. We are children of God. Big difference.

No.
But we will be like angels.
The difference is we will one day be reunited with our resurrected glorified bodies and return with Jesus Christ to a restored Earth and rule and reign with Him for a thousand years.
Afterwards, God will create a new heaven and a new earth.
