Since you're studying Criminal Justice and interested in corrections, why not do a little volunteer work for your local police department? If you live near a large metropolitan area, the departments have full-fledged volunteer programs. Just contact the department via the business number, and ask to speak with the Director of Volunteers. They will send you info on how to get started.

Even if your local department is small, chances are they'd be happy to have your help at the station. I worked as a volunteer at the local police station when I was in college and I *loved* it. I was given a variety of "jobs" to do-- and enjoyed it so much I considered dropping my major and going into police work! There was never a dull moment.

You might really get lucky and find a part time paying position! I've seen it happen...

Hope this was helpful... Good Luck to you!

If there is a prison in your area or jail you can go in and be a volunteer there . I worked in prisons, and I seen a lot of volunteers over the years, it would be a great experience for you, right now a lot of drug programs are up and running. Also mental health issues and additions. You will probably have to get connected with somebody to be able to go in because of your age, I am sure you can find some local church or ministrys that are going in that would be glad to have an extra hand, especially someone really willing to help, Good luck, I just recently retired from the bop, if you have any questions send me an email.
