If you'e after countryside for a photo shoot, try an area called "The Promised Land" just outside Bellingen south of Coffs Harbour in New South Wales. This area has mountains and stream-filled valleys that are second to none. It was where a film starring Nicole Kidman and Russel Crowe was to be filmed and then abandoned at the last moment. Despite drought conditions, this place remains green and lush.

The other place I would recommend is Barrington Tops, also in NSW and a short drive into the mountains from Newcastle. You can access Newcastle by plane, train or car from Sydney but you need a car to get to Barrington.

Tasmania also has some lovely locations. "The Nut" in north-east Tasmania is absolutely breath-taking.

It really depends on what style of phot shoot you're after.

Hope I've given you some leads.

"village/cottages/river/falling leaves/"

Australia has only one native deciduous tree and that is in Tasmania, all the rest of the deciduous trees are exotics. Australian trees do not shed all their leaves seasonally but lose a few regularly. If you want shots of autumn leaves, you will need to go to well established villages with lots of European trees. Try the Blue Mountains or the Southern Highlands in NSW or around Canberra. Tasmania has many older villages that could be worth a look and there would be possibilities in the Dandenongs and other higher areas around Melbourne.

Australia has some wonderful scenery but English village charm is not usually part of it.

Not a lot of falling leaves in Australia, The vegetation stays the same most of the year round, and doesn't really drop leaves that much. However there are some really picturesque locations. I would suggest some of the following:

Great Ocean Road, Victorian south coast.
Southern Highlands, NSW
WA historic towns: Toodyay, York, Greenough, Pemberton.
Atherton Tableland, Qld.
Barossa Valley, SA.

Probably the NT or Northern parts of WA for sheer spectacular.
But then there are the Blue Mountains, Man from Snowy River country etc.
Staret looking in the travel guides is the best advice.

That's a hard one as each state has their own unique scenery.
