Yes, because you are favoring the left knee now because the right knee is giving you problems and so now the left knee is messed up as well. And because you are probably walking with a limp it is messing up the back as well. I am going through the exact same thing. The arthroscopic surgery did not work for me, thinking about total knee replacement now.

I have knee problems also with cartilage. My doctor told me to be glad that it wasn't a ligament. Both of my knees pop out of place (messed them up playing basketball). So I had surgery done on one knee first and never went back for the other knee surgery.
If you are at a point of needing surgery and your favoring a certain knee then there is probably a tear in your cartilage. Your body is trying to fight it so your knee probably has fluid in it as well (a coping mechanism). your body is trying to protect your knee.
So yes, because of all of this you are having pain. The only thing that is going to fix it is surgery and/or keep working them knees. you need them for life so don;t give up on them.
Good luck!

Sympathy pain? LOL, its likely you are favoring your right knee so much, you're putting extra weight and stress on your left side... and therefore causing the pain there.
The fact that its going up your back is just more of the stress of favoring that right side.
Good luck on your surgery. Prayers that all goes well.

Could be. I had that issue with my knees like that. The surgery isn't that bad. You're out, and the next thing you know is you're waking from anasthesia, (which is a cool expirence...) I just had another arthoscopic procedure done on my other knee a week ago, and I was walking the day after with a cane. Good luck!!

Oh, yeah, that's most likely it. I did in my knee when I was on my high school gymnastics team, in 1969. Now I have arthritis in my right knee. My doctor told me that's a very common story, lots of us ex-jocks are paying the price now, because we favored the injured limb, and over-used the other one. Ahh, well...
