I prayed for God to reveal Himself to me and I had a dream that God told me that if I prayed facing the North Pole every night and refrained from hitting people in the nose and to only eat vegetables, that I would get to live forever in an exact replica of Disneyland - blissfully unaware of evil and sorrow.

If I was mistaken - even though have several confirmations - is it still better that I believe it because it makes me a good person and if my faith is correct (because I don't believe this - I KNOW IT!!!) How can I deny my own heart? - then I have won everything - If I am wrong, then I have lost nothing.

Follow your dreams and you are down to the road leading to death, eternal death. Many have been twink to believe that as long as you do no harm to others and practice what is right it will be justify in the eye of God. They prefer their rules rather than God. See the disobedience. They camouflage it in religion to justify. Believe what you want to but God rules STAY and you WILL be JUDGE by it. Go on follow your dreams, it will be your nightmare.

The problems are obvious .
First , there is more to being a good person than no nose hitting , eating veggies , and praying towards Santa . Religious people often follow the minimum requirements of their religion expecting that it is good enough .They ignore the more difficult aspects of being good . For example they spend an hour praying towards the North Pole INSTEAD OF donating time at the hospital .
Second problem is I don't know of any religion that limits itself to three minor rules .
And Third , almost every religion I know trys to push it's beliefs on others . And I hate facing the North Pole . My nose gets frostbite !

Let me answer in this manner.
If I believe I can fly and I walk off of a 20 story building only to find out I was wrong and I can't fly, what do you think the odds are that the law of gravity will be suspended because I truly knew I was right.
The reality is this. If you are wrong, you are wrong.
In matters of the heart this is known as stalking.
In my example, I ignore my experience and senses to believe something irrational. In your example, you believe something ludicrous from a dreamstate.
Beyond the "what if" models, living a good life in ignorance of the truth can earn you salvation. But what is the "good life" defined, and defined by whom?
By you own words you indicate that there is a moral imperative that is universal and absolute. Bravo!!
That is the first principle in the belief in a Supreme Being.

I guess it's OK, but I generally try to believe what is true instead of what I want to be true. If you've evaluated your beliefs the same way, then great. However, you can live a good life no matter what you believe. Even if He exists, God is not what separates right from wrong.

It is important to have a good life. But you have to have truth. The bible says the path is Narrow not wide. So we have to do it by God's terms not by mans. I really believe you are mistaken becuase God is the same yesterday today and forever and if He wanted to tell us something today He would call a prophet like he has always done.

It is true that we are judged by a sincere, honest and INFORMED conscience. There are problems when we live unrealistically even in the spiritual realm, just as we have problems in the physical realm when we act unrealistically. Deliberate ignorance is not fulfilling the INFORMED conscience above formula. I suspect it is OK to fool yourself a little as long as you realize you are doing it. We probably all do that to some degree.

Which is more important to you, having your beliefs be right or having you beliefs comfort you? That seems to be your real decision. I personally choose having my beliefs to be right, but maybe you chose the comfort. I can't tell anyone what they do or think isn't OK if its working for them.

Don't believe in something that's wrong. If you seek the truth, that alone is a big step towards living a good life.
