Paul summed up the Gospel (or Good News) thus:
"Now, brothers, I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you, which you received and on which you have taken your stand. By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain.
For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, and that he appeared to Peter, and then to the Twelve. After that, he appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers at the same time, most of whom are still living, though some have fallen asleep.
I Corinthians 15:1-6
The essence of the Gospel is that we can be saved from God's punishment, forgiven our sins, be changed in nature from rebels to true worshipers, and inherit eternal life through faith in the atoning sacrifice of Jesus Christ.
One other place Paul sums it up this way:
"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come! All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting men's sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation. We are therefore Christ's ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ's behalf: Be reconciled to God. God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God."

Gospel basically means The "Good News" Matthew, Mark, Luke and John are considered the Gospels in the Bible. We also have the Gospel of Judas, Mary Magdalene and Thomas. They are considered Gnostic Gospels.

Gospel means "good news." The word gospel derives from the Old English god-spell.

In literal terms it just means "good news".
In somewhat more general terms it refers to the four "authorized gospels" of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. And some also include Acts and the letters (many of which are attributed to Paul), and also Revelation (which is hard to characterize, but is believed by many to be a prophecy).
But for those of us scholars who challenge and are skeptical, the word gospel connotes an mixed world view, with varying irrational, beautiful, and frightening aspects.

1 Corinthians 15:1-4 says, “Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures.”
In a nutshell, that is the belief of Christianity. Christianity is unique among all other faiths, because Christianity is more about a relationship, rather than religious practice. Instead of adhering to a list of “dos and don’ts,” the goal of a Christian is to cultivate a close walk with God the Father. That relationship is made possible because of the work of Jesus Christ, and the ministry in the life of the Christian by the Holy Spirit.

The gospel is that God sent His Son to earth to die on a cross, to pay for the sin of mankind. He suffered and died, taking upon himself the punishment for all men. He was then raised from the dead and lives forevermore at the right hand of God, making intercession for us. Those who believe that He is Lord and that He is risen from the dead can receive the gift of eternal life by putting their faith in Christ, and being baptized into the body of Christ.

The Gospel is the Good News, that we are able to make peace with God through Jesus Christ. He took away our sins, all we have to do is believe that Jesus Christ rose from the dead and paid for our sins. He said this:
17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. 18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son.
( John 3 )
That is Christianity in a nutshell. God made a way for people who know they are sinners, and that way is the only way to be set free from the nature that we have: The nature to do wrong things.
Anyone can come to Him. Jesus is our way to have peace with God.

The gospel is the message of Jesus and faith in Him. It has to do with understanding his life was prophesied -- from his birth, to his death, to his resurrection, proving he is the Son of God, and that he gives eternal life to those who believe and put their trust in him.
Read the narrative where Peter speaks to Cornelius and his friends and family in Acts 10.
