I don't really know when the PS3 can play AVI files. But I can tell you that AVI support with DivX for the PS3 is officially confirmed.

PS3, because the Xbox 360 is inferior compared, it receives the pink Ring Of lack of existence (It nevertheless does and the hot narrow kind receives the pink Dot of lack of existence so do not attack me 360 fanboys) and also you've were given to pay to play on line. The PS3 has better unique video games and is a lot a lot extra functional (pictures are better) and is accepted the perfect console because it does each and every thing, the Xbox 360 would not actually have a web browser...... no fanboyism, I own both and prefer the PS3.

its there for copyright protection. they wont change it. however it is pretty damn easy to get around by just converting the files to mpeg2 format.
