i've been steadily loosing 3 pounds a week over the last month, but i've been a little stressed out this week and it's causing me to feel hungry at night. i've been eating maybe 600 calories a day (just until i hit goal weight), but now, at night i'll eat little snacks, like a bowl of steamed brocoli with soy sauce, or an egg. i try to avoid eating more by drinking LOTS of tea. i might drink five cups with a few table spoons of milk and a little honey. this exrta portion of food and tea seems to be just enough to keep me from dropping weight. it doesn't seem right. at most i could only be eating 1000 calories, i'm still exersizing. could these small night time snacks really be enough to stop weightloss?

i hate to break your bubble but you are not losing fat - you are losing water weight and muscle and slowing down metabolism. as soon as you start eating normal you will gain back it all because you just feed the yo-yo cycle.
body needs 1200cal/day (50cal/hour) just for basic functioning -you are moving and working out and need a lot more.
you can only lose 1-2lbs a week healthily

it's not the amount of the added food that's causing you to stop losing weight "cosidering it's only that much extra". first of all eating at night is not a healthy choice because your body is not as active as it was during the day and you won't be moving around much which won't ofcourse help you burn any of those calories. second your body is getting ready to rest at night and that's why it slows down your metabolism and other processes because it's been working harder during the day. Most importantly, if you're saying you've been loosing about 3 pounds everyweek for about a month then this is the time where your body weight might level off for a little while then you'll probably lose weight again but at a slower rate. I don't know how much you excersice but that adds to your muscle mass although you might be burning more calories than your intake of caloried (possibly).

Don't worry, those muscles if you're gaining any will help you burn the fat and calories automatically even if you don't diet as strictly as before.

Well, eating less than 600 calories per day will cause you to lose "empty" weight. By this I mean, as soon as you eat slightly more than this, you will either stop losing weight or gain a little. For example, I have lost 13 lbs in one week recently, right before my anniversary. On Saturday night, we went to an Italian restaurant (definitely not on my diet!) and on Sunday morning we went to brunch. Sunday evening we went to an upscale buffet... and by Sunday night I had gained 10 lbs back.

You don't eat right before you go to sleep, do you? Try to avoid eating 3 hrs before bedtime, and get reduced sodium soy sauce, as it could cause you to retain water. Also, eggs are pretty fatty unless you eliminate the yolk... over 50% fat. Try Egg Beaters - they're excellent.

I would not worry about munching on these low carb night snacks. They are good for you anyway. You might want an artificial sweetner like splenda instead of honey until you reach your goal. Then you would want to go back to honey as it is good for you.

You are excercising so I think you are safe and will continue to lose. When you reach your weight goal you should stay on the diet until your body is use to that weight. If you continue to lose, continue to up your calories until you are comfortable with your weight. Calories in Calories out by excercise.

This seems like a drastic diet. I do not know your scenario... But the later you eat the less likely to lose weight. When you go to sleep your body's metabolism slows down greatly, so you have less help burning off the calories from the late night snack.

You can eat certain foods before night infact it's a good idea to get fiber and protien before u sleep to prevent catabolism however ne other type of carb, or ne fat would not be a good idea to eat before you sleep.
Also all these ppl are right about your calorie intake you should at least get ur bmr (basic metabolic rate) in a day.

Gosh, steamed broccoli, an egg doesn't seem to be enough to stop your weight loss. Maybe you've Plateaued. Try soup broth only, low sodium, low calories. Most soups have lots of nutrition and are low in calories... Good luck

it's that or the stress. Stress will prevent you from dropping weight as well. When it's late and you get hungry, just drink a bunch of water/tea no sugar or honey is best, and go to bed.

you need 3 meals a day!! plus 2 snacks containing fresh fruit or veggies. this keeps your metabolism up and sounds like you are just about starving yourself and that is not good. your body is craving something that it is not getting enough of. try eating smaller portions and exercising i think it will make a difference in your midnight snacking.. if it continues eat air popped popcorn or celery stick and water that helps and is healthy too and has lots of fiber

I have heard it is good to eat at night a healthy snack because it keeps your metabolism going, but you need more calories because your body will eat important fats that protect your organs and potentially damage your organs.
