I know -- stereotypical.
Please -- refrain from saying "having sex with children." No sh*t.
There is a priest who comes into my work almost every single day and tries to offer me gifts and gets really frustrated when my boss shoos him away from me. He always talks about baptism and calling me on the phone. So I am curious -- what are the less obvious signs of a pedophile (in general)?
Does this guy sound creepy to you?

Obviously I am asking because he is making me uncomfortable. How does one deal with this?

The thing is -- I am 19. But here is the other thing -- I look much younger and I am also very androgynous looking. I told my all of my bosses and they do the best they can to get me away from him when he comes in. They are very helpful but said they can't do anything unless he actually poses a threat. I said, "What if he follows me home one night and then he poses a threat?" After I said that, they are watching him more closely.

If he makes you uncomfortable, then tell him why: (tell him you do not have the same beliefs as he does, you don't want him to call you on the phone... etc) and do not accept his gifts.
He may just be trying to share his faith, but if you don't feel comfortable, then you've got to let your feelings be known and insist that they be respected.

Well since your not a child he doesn't qualify as being a pedophile, maybe he isn't ready to give up his desires for a women. In any case, any extra attention to children that seem kinda odd are usually a big signal. If he attends alot of children events or hosts alot of youth meetings things like that. It is still always better to get proof before making an accusation. In any case your a lesbian so I don't see why you just don't tell him your not interested unless you have already done that.

Well, calling you on the phone is creepy. Really the only thing you can look for is an unnatural interest in children. If he makes you uncomfortable, don't go back.
If your parents ask why, it's ok to tell them, he shows you so much attention, you are uncomfortable because that is the truth.

that is really creepy, I know I'd be bothered by him in your situation. I thought such priests usually use their position within the church to get at children though... seems odd he'd chase you around at work... not saying not to worry or that you're exxagerating, by any means... just that it seems a little strange. I really don't know what to do to make him go away, though. If he calls you on the phone, you can tell him you do not wish to talk to him? I don't know... I hope he stops bothering you :\

Really, aside from misappropriate speech, fondling, or having sex with kids (yeah, no sh*t), I don't think there are any observable signs, conspicuous or sly, that a pedophile gives out, priest or not. The signs are in the , not in the pedo.

He sounds very creepy to me, and I would discuss this with your boss. Can you also get a monitor on your phone to record the calls? Get the police involved.
I am more concerned for you right now than with your question.
Please take care!

i happen to agree with batgirl on this one....he does sound really creepy....ugh!
File a formal complaint with your boss and keep a paper trail...log any phone calls with date, time, and conversation topic...
as well, keep track of all of the times he approaches you...
the paper trail will help you...
Please be safe and stay away from this weirdo! i fear more for your safety.

It's not a definite sign, but giving gifts to the intended victim is common. Offering you access to alcohol would be another. Usually, they stick to people in their church because it's easier to control them.

I would get the cops involved. They have better means than you do to determine if the guy is harmless, or (as it sounds) a real threat.
