All the suffering in the world is man's doing not God's

Your question is based on a false premise. There is no proof that god exists.

Many of the answers imply that if only enough people in the world believed in god, he would be kinder and cause less planet suffering. Kinda like a percentages game.

Suffering exists not because god is punishing humankind. Suffering exists because some people like to be in control and are very selfish. Why would a rational god permit innocent people to suffer? Isn't god supposed to wait until judgment day before passing judgment?

I've always been an atheist. People ask what would convince me that there is a god. I'm not sure, but certainly open to any tangible evidence. However, the answer to whether or not god exists is unimportant to me.

Please don't quote me bible passages as evidence. Remember, this is my standard of proof, not yours. However, if proof were provided that convinced me god exists, I would change absolutely nothing in my life or my behavior.

I ask you the counter question: If evidence were provided that convinced you god does not exist (evidence according to your standards of proof), what would you change in your life?

Would you stop evangelizing?

Would you start sinning more?

Would you stop helping those less fortunate than you?

Would you feel that life is meaningless?

People can commit good deeds and attempt to avoid causing harm to others without belief in god. I never claim that god is on the side of America when discussing politics. God does not take sides, does he?

SO...why do you believe in god? I like to live a purposeful life and certainly would not do something if there was no purpose or pleasure. So if god does not exist, what would be the point in believing? Turn that around and so assuming god exists, what's the point? How do you use that knowledge in your life? Do you use that knowledge to affect positive change in the world? Is it not possible to follow the Golden Rule, do good deeds, and affect positive change in the world without believing in god? Please don't quote John 3:16 that ONLY believers enter heaven as that sounds like belief is motivated in some selfish personal reward.

I have no vested interest in god's existence. I do not see existence of heaven or hell as a reward or punishment. If you believe in god because you want to enter the pearly gates or wish to avoid the fires of hell, that seems rather selfish. Isn't the whole purpose of religious belief so you can become a better person?

The physical world is all I know and anyone claiming they KNOW a world beyond is claiming to know the unknown.

Humans are to blame for much of the suffering. They fight wars, commit crimes, pollute the environment, often carry on business in a manner motivated by greed rather than concern for their fellowman, and sometimes indulge in habits that they know can be harmful to their health. When they do these things, they hurt others and themselves. Should it be expected that humans would be immune to the consequences of what they do? (Gal. 6:7; Prov. 1:30-33) Is it reasonable to blame God for these things that humans themselves do?

Satan and his demons also share responsibility. The Bible discloses that much suffering is because of the influence of wicked spirits. The suffering for which so many people blame God does not come from him at all.—Rev. 12:12; Acts 10:38;

Ecclesiastes 9:11 says that “time and unforeseen occurrence” also have a bearing on what happens to us. We may get hurt, not because the Devil directly causes it or because any human does it, but because by chance we are in a place at the wrong moment.

In the Bible, God tells us how we can avoid much suffering. He has provided the very best counsel on living. When applied, this fills our lives with meaning, results in happy family life, brings us into close association with people who really love one another, and safeguards us against practices that can bring much needless physical suffering. If we ignore that help, is it fair to blame God for the trouble that we bring upon ourselves and others?—2 Tim. 3:16, 17; Ps. 119:97-105.

God exists ... but the price for free will is suffering. No matter what anyone says, that is the truth. For some reason God likes to test us, to see if we will crack. It is then that He will know where we stand and how much our faith really means to us. Sadly, free will of others also means violence, death, disease, famine ... it is all created by mankind.

Because we ourselves have created sufferings for us. God is just a facilitator and always trying to help us to reach to our objectives, which may or may not be right. Try to meditate on theory of cause-and-effect or Karma.

There is no god, and in the grand scheme of the universe we humans are quite irrelevant, just like anything else, we are subject to forces of nature, and of course, our quality of life reflects the quality of our society. Interpreting events in our life as planned out by a "divine will" is nonsensical, egotistic, and ignorant.

God intends for there to be suffering. Who told you different?

This world does not belong to God. Satan is the god of this world. So, give credit where credit is due.

Luke 4:5
Then the devil, taking Him up on a high mountain, showed Him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time. And the devil said to Him, “All this authority I will give You, and their glory; for this has been delivered to me, and I give it to whomever I wish. Therefore, if You will worship before me, all will be Yours.”

1 John 5:19
We know that we are of God, and the whole world lies under the sway of the wicked one.

But one day soon, that will all change when Satan is cast out as the usurper he is.
Revelation 11:15
There were loud voices in heaven, saying, “The kingdoms of this world have become the kingdoms of our Lord and of His Christ, and He shall reign forever and ever!”

...and the healing will begin.
Revelation 22:2
The leaves of the tree [of life] were for the healing of the nations.
