... so that they are less painful while they are getting past the initial injury. I know that they probably can't be "fixed." But, should I wrap them or what, so that they hurt less while I'm waiting for enough time to pass for them to stop hurting? They are the two toes right next to my big toe. Thanks.

No x-ray, yet. But I have had broken bones and have experience with them. I fell, and in an attempt to break the fall, I tried to quickly throw my foot in front of me to brace myself... but toes, instead, met with heavy solid couch leg... I had thrown all my weight to that foot to avoid hitting my head on floor... anyway, SERIOUS pain, ball of foot is swollen, and one toe is more bruised, while the other toe is more swollen.

I want to treat them like a break, in case they are. If not, money is saved on X-ray and they should be fine after a while.

Did you get an x-ray? You should always get an x-ray to make sure it's a break and not something else. Bones can hurt for other reasons, like bad sprains and cancer.

If it is broken you have to "buddy tape" the broken toe to the neighbor toe.

To buddy tape put a piece of cotton or gauze in between the two toes you're going to tape. Then take strips of gauze and wrap the two toes together. Firm, but not too tight.

Then wrap cloth sticky tape over the two toes. You can leave this on for 3 days at a time as long as you don't get it wet.

Your broken toe should start to feel better in as little as 2 weeks, but remember---it takes 6 weeks to heal completely so choose your shoes and buddy taping routine accordingly!

Wrap the toe carefully to the next one. Wear comfortable shoes, that won't rub the area. Watch for any swelling.. The first few hours ice if swollen.. then warmth.. If worsens see a doctor. Also, if you have any medical conditions, as diabetes, blood clotting disorder, or circulation difficulties.. definitely call or see your doctor. I would call my doctor just to consult at least to see if warrants Xrayed. Most might say no, but then.... you don't want long term problems if heals wrong direction or something .. I have broken both big toes i feel for you! It hurts i know.. I thought i created a new language when i dropped a large wood cutting board on one i broke...

get a steel-toed boot that is one size or two sizes bigger than your usual size, tape the broken toes together loosely, put on three pair of socks on the hurting foot, limp. You'll be a lot better in about 2 1/2---3 weeks. Use aspirin, get plenty of calcium in your diet.

Don't move them until they are fixed and seek a doctor to make sure if other toes are broken or not.

See the doctor. They'll probably put your toes in a cast so they can heal correctly.
