For whatever reason, I CANNOT hug guys without being extremely awkward. I think it's because my first boyfriend made fun of my unexperienced hugging and now I think every guy I try and hug will make fun of me.
People say if he's taller you wrap it around his waste, and his arms go over you like he's protecting you. But others say that your arms go over his shoulders - which I did when I attempted that stupid hug. Are there any basic rules? Do I really need to stop overthinking this!?

You should do what feels natural in the position you're in (standing, sitting, whatever), and don't think about your jerky ex boyfriend! How MEAN to make fun of you for wanting to touch him!! Glad to hear he's an EX! If you feel awkward with another guy, laugh and make a little joke about it...if he's a NICE guy, he'll tell you it does't matter and pull you closer!

2 simple rules...
one - your arms go where they are most comfortable...sometimes over the shoulders, sometimes around the waist.
two - don't do the pat on the back thingy while hugging..it's a sure sign that you are uncomfortable with being close to another man

you shouldnt think about it too much cause they wont either unless its really good or really bad. just go around the waist and if you feel more comfertable turn your head away from him. depending on how close you are with the guy should decide how close your body is to him. if your just friends then dont be pressed against him but if your flirting/dating then chest to chest is the way to go. after a couple youwill find its not difficult

OMG dont listen to anyone --- however you do it just do what feels good to you --- if the guy complains tell him to rack off --- a hug is not supposed to "right" or "wrong" ---- its something wonderful to share and just feel GOOD ---- best wishes

stop over thinking it! it's a damn hug! sometimes it gets akward because people don't know what to do. just hug them! lol like no one's gonna say anything. i think you need to definitely stop over thinking it because that's why it's akward. just do it and it will just come to you.

i don't think there's any way of hugging...the hug is to feel good.
