Yes you can, but the package may get stolen after he leaves.

Yes you can leave a note on the door with your signature ok the package to be left at the door. If a package requires a signature only and you are not home the Fed Ex or UPS guy will usually leave a little sticky note asking you to sign the back and leave on the door. When they try to re-deliver then, if you've left the signed sticky out, they will leave the package. I don't see why they won't do this for a hand written note. They will take this as a signature record. This is even if your package requires a signature. Now if they require an actual person to sign then this will not work.
You can always call the shipping company to see if a signature is required. If not you won't have to leave a note at all. If you want to be doubly sure I'd call the shipping company anyways.

I thought it was kind of weird, but my husband was having something from Best Buy delivered and UPS actually called the house to say that they would be delivering a package the next day. I have never heard of that. I was not going to be home so I left a note stating that my mother in law lives next door and she was allowed to sign for us.

Yes,providing it does not need a signiture. But think about what you are really doing.A note left on the door like that is openly inviting a thief or burgler to come in and rob your home.Far better to pick the parcel up at the post office or ask a neighbour to keep an eye out for it.

If you're not home and the package requires a signature, they will leave a notice. You can sign that notice releasing liability for the package to just be left there. Best case is to just pick it up at the fed ex or ups station yourself if you can't be home to sign for it. Just call them with your tracking number and tell them you want it held at the station for pick up.

Only if no signature is required but in that case, they would leave it anyhow. Otherwise, you'll have to sign the little thing they leave on the door to have it delivered the next day or go pick it up.

Depends on whether the package requires a signature. If it requires a signature they won't leave it unattended. If it doesn't then you're good.

If you want to do this on a regular basis in the future though, you can sign a waver with the company to allow them to drop off everything even if it needs a signature.

Postal service doesn't require signature, so yes, you can ask that, i do, but i ask to put it between the screen and the door if it's not bulky, if so, then in front of it.

I think you should call the shipping company and ask them about their policy.
