I want to make a purchase of a "good quality" camera for an upcoming study abroad trip. I want one that can still take good pictures without a flash in dim light..if possible. I am willing to pay up to 300. What can I get the most bang for my buck with.

all input appreciated

thanks

A good camera to find is one that is durable, and takes good pictures. If looks matter, this might be a little hard to find...
1.) Get a camera with digital support.
Buying a camera with an SD card or some type of memory, and that has a driver cd and USB cable, and is able to be connected to your PC. This is INVALUABLE in camera, because you can easily copy your pictures to your computer for safekeeping, and edit them and upload them onto your website.
2.) Get a medium sized camera.
Do not carry a gigantic camera around... trust me.
It draws a lot of attention, and is hard to bring with you if you're going hiking, or sightseeing. It is also prone to theft, because usually bigger is better. A big camera will also never be lost though. Avoid overly small cameras, because they are easy to lose, or drop.
3.) Invest in a carrying case, and other accessories.
I cannot stress this enough... BUY A CARRYING CASE! O_O
IT is very easy to lose a camera, and break one, if you don't put it in a case. A case can be carried around like a handbag, which is also a slight advantage. A case can also hold several memory cards and other things.
OTHER STUFF...
A very high quality camera is the Canon PowerShot SX100, which is real pricey, at around 200-300 USD, but takes great pictures, and isn't incredibly big. It's also kinda stylish =P

Well, if you're gonna buy a camera, keep an eye out for that stuff. =)

I agree about getting a Canon. Make sure it uses AA batteries and has a viewfinder. Ones with just a display are hard to use in sunlight.

Make sure you become very familiar with it before you go on this trip! You don't want to be "learning" when you are over there! And be sure to have enough memory cards.

Have a great time!
