SOME rental car companies will let you pay for the charges with a Visa or MasterCard debit card, but they might ask for a credit card to make the reservation. Others will let you make the reservation AND pay the charges with a debit card. You just to read their terms and conditions for making reservations (it's on their websites).

One thing I've found out is they're usually more liberal about not requiring a credit card in extremely tourist-friendly places, like Orlando.

Also, if you're under 25, forget it. You'll need someone older for them to even take cash from you.

Some companies will allow you to rent a car without a credit card. You have to ask the rental companies of their policies beforehand and some may ask you for damage deposit up front.

if you have a m/c or visa check/debit card and have money in the account to cover all the cost it will work the same as a credit card. we used this method at Enterprise this summer and got all the same discounts and service as if we used a credit card.
