I've been researching for my new camera and am interested in the Canon Rebel. What do you think of it and/or what is your camera of choice. I'm also looking into lenses, any ideas?

I second the suggestion by Cat Lover with one exception - if you spend time with a professional camera salesperson "picking their brains" then BUY your camera from him/her. Most salespeople in specialty stores are on commission. Its just wrong of you to use their time and then stiff them by not buying from them.

Some stores may offer an hour or two of instruction with your camera. Try getting that at Target or Wal-Mart or over the 'net.

Before investing in lenses, consider this: get the 50mm f1.8 lens with your Canon. Use it a few weeks and note the type of photography you like doing and how the 50mm limits you. Then you can begin looking for lenses that allow you to do what the 50mm wouldn't. Back when I bought my 1st. SLR in 1971, it came with a 50mm f2 lens. I took a lot of good pictures with that lens but I outgrew it.

I recently bought a Rebel XTi, and am in the process of learning how to use it. Try to buy it where they offer classes.

I bought mine at Ritz Camera, and got lots of good advice. What lens you get depends on what kind of pictures you like to take. Pick their brains at a store, even if you decide not to buy it there.

I would rather buy a camera from a store rather than send for one. Just in case something should be wrong, it's a lot easier to return it.
