I will be spending Thanksgiving with my boyfriend of a month and a half. For some reason everyone but my parents, whose opinions I cared for the most, has been bothered by this. Why do others see this as a sign of seriousness? I see it as an opportunity to see another family's take on a holiday tradition. My extended family is fairly close and we get together often, which is not the case with his family. Is it wrong to want see how other people spend holidays? It is not as though I am abandoning them. I will be spending Christmas with them, as I have since childhood. Is my attitude harsh? Do I seem callous towards the feelings of my family? I love them all very much.

We are driving about six hours to get to his family's house. And I promise I don't think I'm rushing. I'm not in too big of a hurry to settle down.

If your parents aren't bothered by it, who cares... to me, Thanksgiving isn't a huge deal anyway. And some people probably think that it means it's serious if you go to your b/f's house for the holiday, but I don't see it as serious... it's just dinner with his family.

If your extended family is close, maybe the feel like you are blowing them off for a guy you've been with for only a short time. Can you stop by to see your family before or after going to your boyfriends? Maybe this would help them be a little less bothered by things.

Spending the holidays with a boyfriend usually means the relationship is serious. If you have only been dating a month and a half your familyt is probably afraid you are rushing into something. Be careful
