We're best friends, and we're all the time flirting back and forth, and we know the attraction is there, but I asked him out and he said that he wasn't quite sure if he wanted to go out with me or not, which I respect that.
But It's real obvious that he likes me, and I know he knows that I like him, so why won't he go out with me?
Is he just afraid that if we break up things will be wierd?
Or could it be something else?

He may not want to commit to anyone. Committing in a relationship can be really intimidating. Or maybe there's someone else that you don't know about. It could be that he's afraid of ruining the friendship if the dating thing doesn't work out. Or, maybe he was waiting to ask you out and you beat him to the punch. Either way, just relax and enjoy your friendship. You'll find out soon enough what his reasoning is. Just be glad that you have such a good friend to fall back on.

Hmm...it might seem like he likes you only to you...have you asked your friends if they pick up on the same thing? Can other people see that he likes you, or is it just you who sees it? Because if he said he wasn't quite sure if he wants to go out with you, that would tell me that he's happy with things the way they are...flirting and nothing more. If he liked you in that way, he would have jumped at the opportunity to go out with you. He might be afraid things would get weird if you two broke up...why don't you just come out and ask him? If you're best friends, you shouldn't have any problem talking with each other about things, and any initial akwardness in asking the question would quickly pass. Good luck with it.

He may like you very much, and may even love you, but not "in that way" so just enjoy the friendship!

Also, read "He's Just Not That Into You"...some quotes from the chapter 'he's just not that into you if he's not asking you out': "An excuse is a polite rejection. Men are not afraid of ruining the friendship. Don't get tricked into asking him out. If he likes you, he'll do the asking. If you can find him, he can find you; if he wants to find you, he will. 'Hey let's meet at so-and-so's party/bar/friends house' is not a date. Even if you live in New York. Men don't forget how much they like you, so put down the phone. You are good enough to be asked out!"

sounds like he likes you as friends and he has no intentions of messing that up cause good friends are hard to come by and keep you should move on and just keep him close by as a good friend you can still hang with. Your feeling for him are something that will fade and you will realize that you are better off as friends by not complicating the friendship with a relationship.

He is probably afraid of losing you as a best friend if things dont work out. That or he is gay and hasnt come out of the closet yet.

Only thing I can think of why he won't go out with you in spite of all the hints that you like each other is probably out of insecurity or fear. He could be someone who is afraid of letting someone get too close to them as well.

Are you ugly? Maybe he doesn't want to be seen with you in front of his friends or something.
