A few others have been mentioned. If you pick up some glycerin (or glycerine), it makes a pretty good moisturizer. Otherwise, most brand name, generic, store brands etc will do ok. Moisturizer is about 70 percent oil and 30 percent water mixed together. It isn't hard to make, and the profits are very good.
If your skin is dry all over, it is probably indicative of another problem. In a medical sense, the skin is the ugly step child of the body (of course, in your case it is the beautiful step child of the body). At any rate, they say this because the skin is cut off from nutrients and blood whenever the body us under stress, especially medical stress.
Of course, it could also be that with the colder weather there is less moisture in the air, and it is evaporating off too quickly on you.
Are you dehydrated overall? Do you notice that your hair is thinning too? If the moisturizers don't do a good job, then ask your doctor next time around about what might be causing the dry skin.
