Each girl has 7 backpacks
In each backpack, there are 7 big cats
For every big cat there are 7 little cats
Question: How many legs are there in the bus?
I know the answer is 10990, but I can not figure out how they get that. Can anyone break that down and explain? Just curious, thanks!

Thanks Steve B. you were first, and it is very simple the way you did it. I was coming up with the same numbers, but stopped at 9604, wasn't adding them all together. Thanks again!

7 girls * 7 backpacks = 49 backpacks; we have 14 legs
49 backpacks * 7 cats = 343 cats; we have 1,372 legs
343 cats * 7 kittens = 2,401 kittens; we have 9,604 legs
If you total the legs, you get 10,990.

Okay, there are 14 human legs because of the girls. Next, to find the amount of big cat legs, multiply 7 girls by the 7 backpacks each one has by the 7 big cats in each by the 4 legs for every big cat. This totals out to be 1372 big legs. For the amount of little cat legs multiply 7 girls by the 7 backpacks each one has by the 7 big cats in each by the 7 little cats for each big cat by 4 legs for every little cat. This makes 9604 little legs. Add the 14 human legs with the 1372 big legs and the 9604 little legs and the total is 10990 legs.
