Does the church (christian, catholic, jewish, muslim, presbyterian, and all the others) have a place in society today, if so why, and if not why not?

2007-11-14 14:33:48 · 13 answers · asked by Micheal Jones 3 in Society & Culture Religion & Spirituality

blondie when you say nourished " by gods word" is it not possible to be "nourished" by the word of say einstein, or say willam shakespeare?

Take a look at the old testament that book was not "nourishing" in the least .... unless you have a thirst for bloodshed and violence.

btw i did not mention removing god from the Pledge of Allegiance.

what i asked was does "god" have a place in todays society, which is a question many people are asking and many of which have found thier answer.

It is the answers people have found i am interested in.

as for the statement it is wrong on so many levels i can only assume you mean that i am or have betrayed god and committed a sin.

Although you seem to have some religious background for your response we have yet to see what if any that may be, and how you think god does or does not have a place in our society.

Another of my reasons for this question is that the bible has changed as has the church they have both changed to be in line with todays societal values.

E.g adultery used to be a sin, today the church does not worry so much about this sin, murder is a sin, yet capital punishment still exists.

Wars throughout history have been fought and won / lost on the basis of religion.

and as for the "pledge of allegiance" i find it slightly ammusing that people "pledge allegiance to god and to the united states of america" yet the founding fathers beleived in a separation between church and state.......

you say that jesus came to earth to save our souls and washed away our sins, yet all children who are new souls must be baptised because of "the original sin" of adam and eve, but if jesus died on the cross why do innocent children have "original sin"?

(i also note baptism is to name the child "before the eyes of god") so you dont need to tell me!

I also am amazed that people who are brought up in a christian family only see the christian church as the true church, if you were brought up a muslim would you beleive the muslim church was the "only way"?

How can you be sure that the religion of which was chosed FOR you by your parents is the one in which you TRULY believe or just simply beleive because you have always been told to?

it does and it doesnt. it does in the sense that as the world gets rougher people need something to stand firm on. and it doesn't in the sense that it deserves more than to fit into society if it bears the name of God.

so i didn't really answer your question did i?
my bad.....

Greetings,

Whether its a persons house, church, temple or monastery; these are all places for us to come together for spiritual community. Spiritual community is very important because the positive vibration that is created between m any people, is magnificent. As specially when meditating or coming together to learn more about spiritual traditions and literature.
So for those who are interested in deppening spiritual enlightenment or self realization, a church or meeting place is important for enhancement and growth. But yes, the religion is dying because not enough poeple are wanting to feel guilty anymore. And that is what religion has done for centuries. No one whats to meet in a church to hear about hell, sins and the devil. Why would they, when intellegent people know the truth.

Until nest time,

blessings

Of course the churches have their places today.. it makes us realize how corrupt we have become. We have to look inside ourselves for the answers... When people tell us what to do, we follow society and governmental rule, which obviously now-a-days runs us without religion.

Religion has seem to follow this exact order, and us fellow church goers tend to not see logic or reasoning behind what we believe in.. ALL that we see is what society influences within the church.. order or hierarchy which is also "power".

God wants us to follow our ways yet "fellowship" with like-minds. It is hard for us in today's society to accept this because all we think of within the church is "consequence". If was up to how many times you attend church and if you received points for going.. then don't you think that my proof about society and governmental rule exist?

I tell you the TRUTH, God wants us to have a church as a place of refuge and to find God... We can also find this within ourselves... He didn't give us life when we were born with a church.. but with ONLY who we are as we ARE born.. in likeness.

I have more teachings of faith if you would like to see.. .ps... my church is about 5'8" 145 lbs... open to all religions that believe in God the Creator.. "whatever His name may be".

Yes! Maybe more today than ever before. The Christian church brings the blessings of God on the nation in which they trully worship God. You can be thankful for them because they are the only thing that restrains the judgement of God.

I think that they do, for a large part of society. But I dont think that it is acknowledged enough. Faith has almost become a bad thing to talk about. Becasue people are so afraid of being politically incorrect. It is a large part of many people's lives and therefore has a place in society.

The Holy Bible says that Jesus Christ came to earth, took on the form of a Servant, and died on a Cross at Calvery to save our souls. He washed away our sins. Any Church that doesn't believe that is not going by the Bible and is not going to Heaven. Jesus said in John 3:3 that a man must be born again or he cannot see the kingdom of God, Born Again means to be born Spiritually, we are all born naturally, but to be reborn spiritually is to have the Holy Spirit come and live in your heart and make you a new person in Jesus Christ. It is the only way to Heaven, period. Anything else is against the Bible. There is no reason to have any other teaching in the world today. The Bible says to Love your neighbor as yourself. Is that what we see today. The Bible says God is Love. God loves us so much that he sent his Son Jesus to die on a Cross to save us from our sins, he was a perfect sacrifice. He paid our penalty. The penalty for sin is death, Romans6:23. Jesus paid it that we might live in Heaven with him if we will accept his free gift of salvation thru his grace and mercy. Will you recieve it today? Will you confess that you need Jesus in your life today? If you will just pray this prayer and Jesus will come in your heart and save you today, it is very simple if you believe, just pray Dear Jesus, I know and confess that I am sinner in need of salvation. I believe you died on a cross at calvery and arose from the grave to wash away my sins, I ask you right now to come into my heart and save me, I pray this Prayer believing in the name of Jesus Amen. If you prayed this prayer with a sincere heart you are now a child of God, rejoice that your name is written in the Lambs book of Life. Jesus will now send his Holy Spirit to come and live in your heart and guide you into all truth. If you have any questions just send me an email, God Bless YOU!!

Yes, we need to have fellowship with God's people, and be nourished, that is hear God's word. Do you have a place in today's society?

"With hurricanes, tornados,
fires out of control, mud slides, flooding, severe thunderstorms tearing up the country from one end to another, and with the threat of bird flu and terrorist attacks, are we sure this is a good time to take God out of the "Pledge of Allegiance?"

As long as the church doesn't start killing everyone again they can have a place in my book. In our publicly funded educational curriculum, not outside of religion classes.....
